I have seen people this far north growing fruit on them successfully if the tree is properly microclimated. The original trees I grew are in my father's yard in Sarasota. He had sent me two boxes of 20+ lbs of fruit this season. I saved the seeds while eating some and preparing jelly with the rest. However so far I don't have a tree mature up here yet. Only been here a bit over two years.

Yes there are many unsprouted too but unfortunately they are all at the point of sprouting shortly either way. Undoubtedly many would sprout on the way even if I picked not sprouting seeds. They also cannot be dried out and must be shipped moist therefore also contributing to the likelihood of sprouting.

Most seeds beginning to sprout but not yet too far along. If anyone wants seeds please get them ASAP! Still many left to grab. After another week or so most seeds will be too far into sprouting to ship. Let me know!

Glad to have confirmation they are definitely edible. Thanks for reporting your experience with them!

If you want PM me with whatever you want for the leren plant. I might have enough in PayPal to send over.

Definitely let me know too what new types you've found!

I have a supposed variety of D. bulbifera that is edible. Came from a member here named Caesar. They came to me from Puerto Rico. There is a few small bulbils forming now. I have yet to attempt eating any but I bought them from him due to being an edible type. Don't look much if any different than the wild types here in FL that are toxic. I do believe him due to his interest in all things true yam. It's still a bit scary to try them though just in case. If you see this Caesar would you please let us know if in fact you yourself have eaten this type without issues of any kind. Also if you've sourced any new yam types I'll totally buy some from you. Also the leren tubers I bought didn't ever pop up after winter but I would try it again if your ever selling any. Probably got too cold for them here on my porch.

There also is a guy called Grower Jim here in FL that has an edible bulbifera type too. Maybe you could find and talk to him. He sells on eBay. He's got the one that the aerial bulbs look box like not just rounded looking. I myself would buy some if anyone out there has them and sees this. I'll contact grower Jim eventually either way. I have bought stuff from him before and he is a good seller.

Hope that info helps! DG

Yes forgot to specify FL members. I have other thread pertaining to citrus in which I specify FL members. Threw the post up quickly to see if there was interest at all.

My wife had juiced the fruits before I had gotten home but here's a pic of the half rinds near a lighter for size perspective.

For these key limes they are quite large if that spurs any larger interest. I'll try and remember to post a pic later. Larger than the key limes you see in the bag thingy at a store by a significant amount.

If anyone is interested in spiritual healing plants I have many available through the year. All listed here are legal so long as you only grow them for novelty or species preservation.

Available now:

Psychotria nexus leaf cuttings
Psychotria viridis leaf cuttings
P. alba/carthagenensis leaf cuttings
Banisteriopsis caapi unrooted cuttings several types
B. muricata unrooted cuttings
Trichocereus cactus seedlings many types
Kratom tree cuttings two types

Cuttings may or may not be tip cuttings which doesn't seem to effect rooting efficacy. Inquire via PM.

Kava is very shade tolerant and does well in a fairly lighted spot indoors. Definitely don't allow it to stay outdoors if it drops into the 60s.

Logees greenhouse company sells them from time to time but yes otherwise they are not easy to obtain. I've had and killed kava 3-4 times just due to leaving out a night or two in the 60s.

If you can post a pic of your M. speciosa I could ID it for you. At least in terms of the correct species not the strain. Most types hardy look any different from each other.

Gonna have tons of key lime seeds. A buddy came up from Sarasota with tons of them for us. Nice good sized fruits for a key lime. Checking to see if there's interest in the seeds. Let me know!

Still many seeds. Several beginning to sprout now. Get them before they are too far along to ship!

Lots of seeds available and bunches more coming. This plant just keeps pumping out fruits!

Ya my yard here is some heavy stuff. Drainage is very poor in most of the yard. I have one high ridge that's sandy but it's an unprotected area unfortunately. Not ideal to plant stuff that needs detailed care. I plan to microclimate a few types of avocado to the southward side of structures I have. Hopefully get a 5+° difference or better up close to the sunny side of a wall etc. Keeping them out of a northern wind etc. Eventually going to take up the metal panels on parts of my large overhang on the front of the house and put on clear panels. Effectively giving lots of light and creating a 10×15' or better covered area in two spots to microclimate several less hardy species but in the ground entirely. Then just prune to keep smallish.

766
Yes I do agree with what your saying. Growth speed matters to me too but lessly so than getting the best hardy types likely to handle here. I can wait on the fruit or graft later. Soil type tolerance matters too and I'm in heavy clay here. However I'm willing to accommodate that by raising them up when planting with better draining soil. Mound it up or create a permanent raised bed like area.

Many seeds still available! Many starting to sprout therefore only available for another week or two before most are too far along and need planted.

770
Me too I'd love the green calyx type. Also very interested in any beyond the standard red type. Willing to buy/trade anyone that has some.

771
I have a variety with large calyxes but it is probably the standard type. Should have seeds ready in a few weeks. There was a member here I cannot recall their name that had several types including green calyx types. Lives somewhere in South Florida is all I know for sure. Maybe she will see this and chime in.

772
Yes seems not super easy to find those types. You would think they'd be popular due to people wanting trees that can handle the zone 8 boundary areas. I had a grafted Fantastic tree at one point but it was smallish and was killed by a 19°F night. Wasn't big enough yet to handle.

Mexicola types are a bit less cold hardy than I would like for sure. Probably will buy bacon seeds from Spaugh when they are ready. About how cold hardy is zutano?

773
Thanks Spaugh I might get some of those other types from you too.

Looking specifically for:
Joey
Fantastic
Del Rio
Lila/Opal
Other variety known to handle 20°f and lower

774
Bumping this thread so anyone with cold hardy avocado seeds or seedling/grafted small trees might see this.

Thanks to Spaugh for the Stewart variety seeds! They came in good condition and look viable certainly. Recommend buying those seeds from him if your in need.

However looking for the most cold hardy types still though. Let me know!

Thanks!
