Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: planting a long term potted plant?
« on: December 13, 2017, 11:18:43 PM »
Thanks for the info! It is an Alano and it is in a 25 gallon pot. Im hoping that it does not drop the ten or more fruit that it is currently carrying.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / planting a long term potted plant?
« on: December 13, 2017, 01:09:43 PM »
Well me and my wife recently purchased a ten year old Chico Sapote that has spent its life in different size pots. I want to put this beauty in the ground soon but I wanted to pick the brain of anyone that has experience with root pruning? If you have any opinions on best practice with prepping long term pot bound plants for planting in ground, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,
Erik

Tropical Fruit Discussion / southern california blue berry soil?
« on: December 01, 2017, 06:08:25 PM »
So I have never planted Blue Berries before and I have heard they like a very acidic soil? If you have a good blue berry soil/fertilization program I would love to hear it! I will have five plants in ground and five in pots.

Thanks,
Erik

Thank you Annona and Simon for your responses. Simon I do not think that my area gets frost but that got me thinking what defines frost? Is it a temperature or actual frozen water that covers the ground/plants?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Growing Mango trees in Southern California
« on: September 29, 2017, 07:02:33 PM »
WOW this thread has been a wealth of knowledge to read through as a very new SoCal Mango guy. I currently have 4 mangos in the ground and room for about six more :) I want to take the time and transition everything to Manila root stock myself. My question is if I have several Manila root stock plants that I bought from Lowes should I plant these trees in there permanent locations right now or leave them in there pots and graft/plant them in spring?

Also on a separate issue Toptropicals website is posting that they have Orange Sherbet grafted trees for sale is there any possibility that this could be legit?

Future thanks for the response, and I thought that Orange Sherbet was not apart of the new releases. I was just looking at Top Tropicals site and saw that they are selling what they are calling Orange Sherbet Mango trees. Because I know the confusion that has happened in the past with this cultivar I thought I would ask the forum.

Thanks everyone for all the great info on these mangoes and many others. I am a very new backyard gardener but have gotten hooked one planting mangoes, especially the new Zill varieties. I wanted to know if with these new releases has Orange Sherbet been finally released to the public? I have read all the drama/confusion about this cultivar and like many others would love to have one.
