Germinating black sapote (D. digyna)?
« on: January 07, 2023, 07:04:41 PM »
I picked up a couple black sapotes from "Robert Is Here" in south FL last week, and saved 8 seeds. They are in a bag in a warm place with a slightly damp paper towel, but it just occurred to me that I'm not sure if these need some kind of stratification first. Does anyone have experience sprouting these? Any tricks or preferred techniques?

I have had a high rate of success just tossing them in a bag of moist vermiculite or peat and planting them in the same mix I use for Jaboticaba, (80% peat 20% perlite.) Just keep them moist and warm and they germinate very quickly, usually within a few weeks or less.

Same here I put them in a baggie at room temp with damp vermiculite and they
germinate fairly quickly. Once they germinate I plant in potting mix
