No the flowers don't smell like the fruit. The gaseous smell of the fruit is to attract animals that can smell it from afar and are attracted to it. The smell starts happening as soon as the fruit falls to the ground,  ripens and splits open, then animals like civet cat come to eat them and spread the seeds. In other words it's a reproductive strategy.

Amazing flowers.  Thanks for posting these.  While I am not a huge fan of the fruit, the tree, the fruit appearance and now the blooms are incredible.  I have dabbled with plantring and growing seedlings over the years.  They get about 3 feet high and inevitably die.  I keep growing them nonetheless because they are so intriguing.
