This is almost like a birth announcement :)
« on: March 07, 2012, 02:03:17 AM »

I am so excited that I had to share.... I just came home from a CME conference in Colorado to find the avocado seedling tree that I planted 6 yrs ago covered with flowers for the first time! I wonder if the chat I had with Noel Ramos about lopping it down to a foot tall and top working it was the twist of fate?!  :) Which could still be possible depending on if the fruit is worthy or not!
I am very excited to see what it produces!

Congrats, perhaps you will have a worthy new Avocado variety.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Yes congrats!!

I hope it's resistant to the vector, ambrosia beetle, and the pathogen it spreads!

I've see some trees exhibit resistance to the disease, and they look as if they will survive to fruit again.  Time will tell.  I'm sure there is a big demand for resistant strains of persea.

Congratulations, Marin!  Are there any other avocados in bloom anywhere near yours?  I hope so.  Without that, you may not get fruit to set. Best of luck and keep us posted.

In Florida Harry?  Don't you guys have these growing in nearly every yard and on every corner?

Congrats Marin...that is one tree I've never seen in my neighborhood! I'm guessing its to cold for them here. My neighbor has planted a least 4 of them but every year it dies at the very first cold snap. I'm sure its NOT the cold hardy variety...until last few months I didn't even realize they had them till I saw it on PIN website.  I might have to see if I can find a cold hardy variety.
I sure hope you get some fruits! Keep us posted!

In Dade County...you are just about correct, in Broward County, not quite as often but quite frequently....in Palm Beach County, much less frequently.  The proximity of the trees is the issue.  They are not on every corner.  When I moved into my house, I had two trees on the property already that did not produce.  I planted more varieites and now I have bumber crops.

Yes there are quite a few around the neighborhood. One across the street and one directly behind me that I know for sure are flowering. I am so anxiously waiting to see that tree covered with avocados! Will flies pollinate it as well or does it mostly rely on bees? Avocados for everyone if it sets fruit! That tree is well over 40 feet tall!

Hey Marin, depending on what you use to open image docs.  Here are two examples:

1.  if you're using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, these buttons will rotate your image, then click SAVE.

2. if you're using PAINT, then the option is located elsewhere, see below:

Marin
Very nice...Let's see if it's a good productive tree so you can avoid top-working it.
