Thanks

It’s poly. Sometimes mono seeds fool people and here is how that happens: the central shoot from the mono seed on occasion dampens off just below the soil, but then survives and throws up multiple new shoots and then the observer says omg look xyz mono mango is poly how is this!?! I’ve also seen poly seeds only put out one shoot and that’s because below the surface those other embryos from the poly seed dampened off and only one survived.

Bolt is definitely poly seed.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Need some help with mango ID

I grow and love ice cream mango it’s not an ice cream, supposedly the tree is grafted because Im told there are two diff types of mangos on the tree as a whole. It’s possible maybe this is seedling and it’s fruiting with another type grafted to it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Need some help with mango ID
« on: July 09, 2023, 08:21:53 PM »
Friend brought a a few mangos from a person with a tree in Vero beach of a mango with a taste profile completely unique to anything I’ve every tried… it doesn’t fit the mold of classic florida, Indian, or se Asian, the mango is tiny, flesh is whiter that ivory and the flavor is sweet honey (really though not like that one knock off called raw honey🙈), zero fibers, and creamy. Mango looks like it’s very susceptible to anthractnose. Here are some pics.

Thanks,

Joe

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Sunburn on abiu fruit
« on: June 27, 2023, 09:27:12 AM »
Its possible but sunburn is not usually so defined. I have a big fruited selection of z4 that pumps out fruit all year around. I got one off it last week that was over 5oog and the biggest  can reach 1kg. If I could remember how to post pics I would send pics. I have been prectising propogating latelt and cleft grafting is tough and marcotting is very hard with abiu but side grafting works.

Hey Mike,

What is side grafting? Can you elaborate further.

Thanks,

Joe

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Bolt Mango
« on: June 14, 2023, 10:30:14 AM »
Bolt is a delicious mango, one of my favorites, reminds me of Carrie and sweet tart where resin flavor penetrates all through flesh, when I first had it years ago I asked Richard Campbell why they call it bolt he said “because when the mango hits your taste buds it’s like a lightning bolt” tend to agree lol. Sulcata grove review is terrible because they reviewed a mango that literally was fermented, or rotten. If you’ve ever experienced a rotten fruit that’s fermented with an alcohol like taste you know exactly what’s wrong with the sulcata grove review….

I have two bolt trees both from peace river and believe he is only supplier atm because Richard Campbell isn’t producing them at scale.

Hey guys really sorry on the late replies to the DM’s on this subject I just seriously kept forgetting, here is a shot of my neighbors tree I asked him about the fruit and he said go for it, I don’t mind mailing these out for a nominal fee though I have ZERO idea how to properly pick this fruit in it’s ripe stage if anyone cares to advise?

Thanks,

-joe
