I used plain well water.  It does smell sweet and fermenty kind of like beer brewing.  It definitely hasnt turned into vinegar.  Cant say its pleasant though.  Im going to put a heat pad under it and see if I can get it to go a little faster.  Theres very little "white stuff" on the top of the fermenters and very little bubbles coming out of the air locks.  Its like the process is stalled.

Looks good behl.  Plants look happy and everything looks very organized and tidy.  Very nice yard.

Thanks for the post about nitrogen cookie monster.  Maybe less of a problem here but that makes a lot of sense. You guys get a lot more rain too which probably has some N in it.

Its been over a week since adding molasas and water.  The stuff is in the high 3s maybe 3.8PH range.  Not much activity or build up in the bottles.  Kind of smells like ass.  Not sure if I botched it or its going ok just needs more time?  Its in 80F room.

How do you know its a good batch vs gone bad?  Only way to tell is the PH?

Cookie monster do you not give any nitrogen to mangos?  Or only once they are large?  Whats the reasoning?  Just curious so I can try and get the right mix to my trees.

It was in another thread called "grafting avocados".  I have a bunch more trees now being grafted with excellent results in the middle of August.  Sadly, I am running out of places to plant all the new trees I've got.  I am cheating a bit though putting them indoors.

If temperatures are below 90F, I don't think you will have problems.  Just keep the trees in 80 or 90% shade for 3 weeks then slowly move into more sun as they start pushing.  If you are doing it onto a tree already in the ground, it may be more difficult.

The stuff grows like weeds, definitely dont pay for dried leaf.  Its so easy to grow my mother inlaw took some seeds and put in her garbage soil and just waters it and less than a year later they are 10ft tall and covered in seed pods.

The miracle fruit is a lot more difficult to grow.  I havent grown them but from the research Ive done its not that easy in CA.  Needs acid soil and humidity.  Best bet for those is to buy a plant on ebay from a seller in CA so it doesnt have to be acclimated from FL or HI.

I have moringa seeds, you can just have some.  They are really easy to grow.  The lilikois are rooted now too.

Its phosphorous and and potassium, its for any plants.  You can buy super triple phosate and (sul po mag) or potassium sulphate etc and make your own ferts.  The 0-10-10 is just convenient since its liquid.  You should really get something with micro nutrients in it for the long term.

What all are you fertilizing?

Lowes has 0-10-10

Proper nurseries have gro power 3-12-12 with micros and humate.

Get the tree bare root in January, dont buy one thats been sitting in a pot all summer and plant it now.  It will just go dormant.  Its best to get it on the other end of dormancy when they are waking up and will have spring and summer to get established.  The bare root trees seem to do better than potted ones too in my experience.

Tested. So it's good to go.
I'll snap a picture of the failed one later.

Hopefully.  The rebar may be good now but a few years of rust could make it fail.  So I will probably hit them with some rustoleum and seal thewood parts and hope for the best.  I have a bunch of horse panels that would work also but no great places to set them up.

DF definitely get really heavy.  I might throw a 3rd rebar in there since Seanny says its not enough.  Seanny post some photos of your supports if you can.  Im always open to new ideas.  And I will be making more supports in the future.

My neighbor and I both hung off one of the supports like monkeys today.  400lbs combined weight and the rebars didnt budge.

I havent noticed much difference in vigor among rootstocks.  Some people say use mexican avocados for cold tolerance but I am not really seeing how a rootstock thats grafted at ground level is going to impart cold tolerance on the tree.  Maybe someone knows.  For backyard growing, just use whatever is available.  Ive got a bunch of trees on random rootstocks that seem to be growing just fine.

I was just kidding around...  Stewart and holiday are good trees they both kind of small and slow growing.

I have a bunch of rootstocks in small pots I wanted to graft up to sell to forum members.  The problem is they dont get large in thr smaller containers so I may have to scratch that idea.

If you want to graft some trees just start saving the seeds and put them in 5gal pots.  In a few months you can graft them up and make new trees.

Why not just buy them all?

They probably used the thinner rebar.  If it becomes a problem I guess I could use even thicker rebar but seems excessive.  Seems like its working for a lot of people.  I already have a few in use also.

The article linked is about American persimmons, which yours are not.

My Japanese persimmon only get water from runoff from orchid pots 2' away, twice a week. How much watering your tree get Jabo nearby?

I must have drowned the persimmon, Lol. The Jabo is in a rootmaker pot, getting water twice daily in the summer, each time 10 minutes. I'll plant a new persimmon tree in a different spot next time.

Dont buy another home depot tree.  Find a bare root dave wilson tree in january.

4048
When the leaves turn chlorotic and yellow its not a good sign.   You can bend yhe wood in a few weeks and see if theres still life in it but sounds like its going to die.  They dont like lots of water.

4049
When do the leaves start to yellow and drop though?

Stupid question -- you sure the tree is not just going dormant? I've come across a few people who thought their persimmon was dead because it dropped its leaves and went dormant for the winter. It is, after all, a deciduous tree.
Too soon.  Its still summer in CA.  Persimmon trees still have fruit into fall and winter.  Fruit isnt even turning color down here yet.

Around thanksgiving
