Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lower soil ph with sulfuric acid
« on: October 16, 2020, 08:07:50 PM »
Most blueberry growers add sulfuric acid (battery acid) in their irrigated water to help lower soil ph.  Anyone use it to help lower soil ph?  My city water has ph of 8-8.5

Soil sulfur take a long time to lower the ph.  I am thinking of buying battery acid from auto parts store to help lower the soil ph.

Citrus General Discussion / Tangerine flowering now
« on: October 06, 2020, 01:40:06 AM »
My tangerines (clementines and california honey) are in full bloom for the last two weeks.  What to do?
I did not pick all of the fruits until late June.  Usually they put out flowers in late March.  This March they had very little flowers,  but for the last two weeks they flower very heavy.

Any Southern California citrus grower run into this situation?

Should I take all little fruitlets off the trees?

Thank you, Cham

NOTE:   My navel orange, tango tangerine and  Florida honey tangerine bloomed in March as normal

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Espalier Cherimoya
« on: August 22, 2020, 06:14:43 PM »
Hello, running out of grow space on my backyard.  So for the last few years I decided to plant my fruit trees using espalier method to maximize growing space.   Here is my 6 years old espalier Cherimoya in the pot.  I have been training it along with plum and peach trees and still learning.  Question is what is the appropriate time to thin/prune the cherimoya branches.  Should I do it in summer after fruit set or in the fall?
