« on: September 07, 2021, 02:42:14 AM »
Has anyone ever tried to prevent beloved young mango tree from flowering by wrapping her with Xmas lights in cold winter nights?

You could probably reduce cold damage but depending on how cold it gets there, you're probably not gonna cancel out winter cold effect.

Unnecessary. Just pick off tiny fruits when they form. Its a good thing to have a tree in the habit of flowering.

Seedling or grafted? Don't grow small graft tree.

Thank you guys for all the suggestions.  It Grafted 1year old in ground.  Lots of members recommended not to graft on a one year old Manila purchasing from HD, but I just want to try this out.

I also have another Manila from HD sitting in the ground ungrafted.

Because you will have young tree flowering issue: slow growing

Probably not a problem here in FL. In CA, can see your point.

Yea hear in SoCal mango trees tend to grow slowly anyway and excessive flowering takes a four-cylinder subcompact car and turns it into a two-cylinder vehicle. In general 2.5 years of California growth are equivalent to one Florida year. The Pacific ocean influence really slows us down from a growth perspective especially if you are close to the coast in SoCal.
