Does Microcitrus Papuana have seeds?
« on: October 14, 2021, 09:52:04 AM »
Maybe a dumb question, but are there seeds inside the microcitrus papuana fruits? From the pics and videos I have seen of this citrus I don’t see any visible seeds 🤷‍♂️. I would be interesting in growing it from a seed if there are any available.

Thanks,

Joe

Yes, according to the Home Citrus Growers website, http://www.homecitrusgrowers.co.uk/australianpngnativecitrus/citruswintersii.html, an excellent reference, particularly for native Australian citrus. However, as he states on that page, the Citrus wintersii (Microcitrus papuana) specimens in both Europe and the United States do not match botanical specimens collected in the 1960s, 1970s, or 2010s. They are larger, with a different shape and far fewer seeds. He believes all the ones in cultivated collections are hybrids, which is interesting since the real deal was introduced to Florida in 1970 by H. F. Winter.
