He's developed his own varieties in PR.  One is called Lolo.

Oh, nice.  I'd love to have it if it taste good with that kind of production. However I have a real bad experience regarding avocado trees from FL and PR. They all died. I can give it a try one more time if it is worth to try though. I will buy it only during the winter season.

If I were in CA, I don't think I'd mess with avocado trees from FL or PR.

You can buy avocado trees from FL, PR legally only if a nursery has a special ( agricultural)  certificate to ship it to CA. I assume many of nurseries have them since I legally bought trees from them.

It would suck to be the guy that brings in laurel wilt to CA and takes out the CA avocado industry.
