Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Wanted: Shikuwasa in CA
« on: May 20, 2023, 02:10:11 PM »
i saw it on one of their email updates. It means that budwood will be available in the new year or two. If you don't want to graft it yourself, then you would need to talk to a grower who would get budwood and graft it for you. I would imaging that 4 winds would sell them when it becomes available.

It's on CCPP list to be released soon. Then you can order budwood.

It's in an unheated greenhouse. About 4 feet tall. I'm going to graft up a few this summer, and then plant it outside.

I got mine from Stan McKenzie. It grows really slowly, and it is ugly.

My Glauca has also grown really slowly. I've had it for 3 years, and get less than one foot per year. It's in the same soil mix as much other 200 citrus, and in a greenhouse in Portland, OR. My Coachella grows three times as fast.

To me it's Lemon/Lime/Pomelo. I think it's an amazing flavor. The oils in the rind are crazy strong.
I use the zest to make these Yuzu beers. We also make a Yuzu Hard Seltzer, I need to update the website.

Ilya,
Do you know with your Ichangquats, is Kumquat the mother or father?

Cold Hardy Citrus / US 1279, 1281, and 1282

Does anyone have any mature flowering trees US 1279, 1281, and 1282 that they want to sell?

So do you think that the Yuzuquat is Yuzu Flower pollinated with Kumquat pollen?
And that is why it blooms in spring?

12
I've been waiting two years for my Yuzuquat to bloom, it's starting to put out buds now. Heated Greenhouse in Portland, OR. When I got it, I remember reading that it blooms when most other citrus bloom, and ripe in fall. It doesn't bloom when Kumquats bloom, which are ripe into winter.
From what I can tell, with very little out there, the cross was (Nagimi x Meiwa Kumquat) with pollen from Yuzu. Is that what you all believe?
So does that mean that the Yuzu father dictates the bloom time?
Citrangequats are citrange crossed with Kumquat pollen right? and they bloom like Kumquats.

So, if that is true, we should all be crossing everything onto Kumquats, well the Kumquats that are zygotic.

I'm down in Portland, I have a few small Yuzu now, but you should hit me up in the spring and I will graft up a few Yuzu, Changsha, Xei Shan Satsuma, and others.

UC Riverside has it in their collection.
You would need to contact CCPP, convince them that it would be commercially viable. Get them to grow it out for a few years until it is disease free. Then get it.
I'm sure no one else in the US has it readily available.

Two seedlings survived and one is now almost two feet tall, the second is only six inches tall and has not had a growth flush at all this year.

What nursery in NC did you get them from?
