I I had an unmarked mango in my order from Tropical Acres Farms. I have a suspicion it may have been a Sophie frey. It tasted like a Dwarf Hawaiian but the shape and coloration was different. It may have been a Julie. Sophie frey and Saigon were the only two mangoes that I wanted to try this season that I did not have an opportunity to taste. One of the pleasant surprises for me was Venus. It is now on my grafting list maybe I'll graft it to Karen Michelle they are both large mangoes but I'm not sure about their vigor. It seemed like Alex was shipping a lot of Sophie frey in his packages this year so I was just wondering if anyone had an opportunity to taste it.

The skin color and really the shape should have given it away. Sophie is more a yellow color and Julie here is greenish, maybe with a hint of green gold, and usually a rediish/pinkish blush. Hard to describe but Julie should be more boxy (not "smoothed" corners) in shape. Sonetimes a hint if coconut can be found in Julie but its not a given.

From your description it must have been a Julie. Maybe next season I will get to try it. I consider it a Zill family Legacy mango. I will probably end up adding it to my collection for that reason.

Ditto on all that; I had one SF fruit from TA around a month ago and it matched your description.

I would rethink this decision. There is a reason why its not propagated nor widely available (not even at Walter's). There are far far vetter varieties to plant.

I know what you're saying is correct maybe I should just graft a few scions onto my Dot

Sophie Frey’s biggest drawback is the size of the fruit. Ours had a fairly substantial crop though, which probably impacted the individual fruit size to an extent.
Most people that tried the fruit this year seemed to enjoy it.

It was good, but I thought the similar-sized Cambodiana I also picked up that day tasted better.
