« on: June 17, 2025, 07:22:13 PM »chiming in to ask if any of the nurseries in socal sell grafted mangos on manilla instead of turpentine. I wanna drive out there soon to buy more tropicals.
I never see them on Manila since they always just buy from FL and FL seems to default to turpentine.

But somehow I don't think it will reach me when I fill in my real address three thousand miles away.
They spoil super fast. Sometimes overnight after ordering. While the plastic clamshell is probably slightly better than cardboard, it also is full of condensation so I am wary that they will survive. I think ice pack + overnight ship, maybe survive? Bout to be $100 delivered, I'd guess, for 30 fruit.
I have never had them spoil that fast, in fact, they seem to last quite a bit. I store them in the fridge, they’re better cold anyways.

Simon, that’s awesome, thanks for taking time to give more insight on your experience. In the end, whatever it is that you’ve done, your results speak clearly of how dialed in you are with them and most of not all are dying to get to where you’re at. Keep on keeping on man!

You clearly have no idea about economics. Either do I, but I do understand the concept of supply demand. There’s essentially zero supply in a huge demand. If somehow it gets to the point where it hits the main stream it obviously will not be that much.
I do have some understanding of supply and demand, and capitalism. After all, I have spent a good portions of my life living under communism, socialism, and capitalism looking for quality of life.
As far as the cost of maintenance, I would not imagine, in China, that yangmei costs 5 to 10 time the price of longan , lychee, etc... A decent comparison would it costs more to maintain yangmei over fig?
Anyway, like Kaz said, before jumping on the wagon, buy the fruits; eat the flesh; and sell the seeds to help recover the cost.
I shouldnt have come off so harsh like that, but you also shouldn’t be so harsh to our fellow fruit grower and ONLY COMMERCIAL YANGMEI PRODUCER, Harvey, and Calmei/ Charlie, for making it even possible for many of us to try yangmei. Without them, there would be very few people eating fresh yangmei here in the states. They for sure should not be labeled as you have stated.
I don’t have a ton of yangmei experience, but I can tell you that I have spend many thousands of dollars specifically on yangmei and I don’t have much to show for it. A few trees still alive and barely growing, not even close to fruiting yet.
Do you know how long China has been producing yangmei? I don’t know how much they sell fruit for in China, but they have a massive production over there, which I hear has surpassed apples.
All I k is is that I am enjoying ya gneiss so much which is why I have no problem shelling out like I have. I can only hope that it continues to gain traction and that prices will drop and everything yangmei will be widely available.

Just got my 2 boxes, bought the lasts ones, sorry.
Each box (plastic box, improvement over the paper box) contained the following:
Box 1= 29 fruits
Box 2= 30 fruits
So, you can easily recover you cost of the box by just selling the seeds for $1 each. I better buy a few more when they have the Sweet Violet.

You can start your own Yangmei farm with trees that are already fruiting if you have $1.5-$2Million. I looked into this and decided not enough profit for the investment at this time.

Dang, mine still came in the paper boxes and they are almost always smashed to a degree or open and rolling through the bag. I’ve expressed my concerns about needing to find a better solution, especially when selling at this premium.

« on: June 16, 2025, 07:27:04 PM »They require so much work in terms of maintenance and the manual labor involved with harvesting is insane compared to other common crops.I am curious what are the extra maintenance requirements for yangmei when growing commercially outside of the harvest season?
Harvest season incurs much of the cost but because Yangmei is such a new crop, the initial investment for grafted trees, soil conditioning, consultations, etc are also very expensive. Depending on what rootstock you use, the soil requirements are different and certain rootstocks take longer to reach commercial production.
Once the trees are in ground, not all trees may survive so you have to purchase replacement trees. Once your trees are large and in full production, there is a lot of costs involved with pruning the trees because they grow so vigorously.
That’s not even the half of it, I do some Yangmei consulting and don’t want to get into the details but just before harvest season, if you haven’t prepared properly, you could easily lose much of your crop.
Hey Simon, I’m just curious and it’s not questioning your abilities or experience but I’m wondering what your credentials/experience is with yangmei to where you have all this proprietary information and provide consulting to what sounds like large scale operations for growing this? Obviously you have container growing these dialed in and I wish I was even a fraction as far along as you are with these!

If you had success, can you tell me how difficult it was, and about what your success rate was for cuttings you tried to root. I plan to root all the left over cuttings that don't sell this weekend and want to know if it is easy to root or difficult like a guava cutting.
When I go back to see the Sylvia tree to do more air layers, I may get some cuttings for people if anyone is having success rooting them.
Lucuma cuttings are being rooted?!

For anyone that has an issue with your order, please reach out and don’t react like Iceman. I can assure you that I’ve eaten countless beans off this tree along with many others and I’ve never heard them described as Iceman has described them. But I would imagine that most of us fruit growers understand there is variability within fruits, and unfortunately, I can’t sample the fruit before I send it. What I can do is assure you that I do my best to determine when it is ready to pick and that they are cut fresh and shipped so that they arrive the same way that I packaged them. I appreciate all of your support and will continue to do my best when offering anything to you guys.

Same goes for my coworkers that tried them as well.I sent you a private message about it and gave you 24 hours to respond giving you a chance before putting my feedback here, but that did not happen. I left the rest of the beans in the box incase you wanted them back, but I did not hear from you. I saw that you were active here all day, so there were chances to get back to me, but crickets. To be honest, these cannot be considered a treat. There is no sweetness or flavor at all, not enjoyable, and $40 down the drain. I received mine yesterday and they have no flavor and no sweetness. Waste of my $40 😞.
