Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Fresh Yangmei Fruit on Weee!
« on: Today at 05:08:19 AM »
Got my yang order today and had the same issue of getting sweet violet instead of eastern giant. Whether they were indeed sweet violet or not, Iím not sure. I donít believe there were mixed varieties within a single box. My experience with yangmei is extremely limited up to this point, only eating a fruit on two different occasions. I felt that the flavors were a bit past prime. There wasnít any sort of ferment-y type of taste, but there was this essence of an Ďoldí type of flavor, not really sure how to describe it.

Not familiar with this species

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB Loquat varieties.

WTB loquat varieties. So I have a few loquat trees that are larger fruiting age including a multi-graft, one Sherry (yuk), and some smaller 2 year seedlings. What are the best loquats to buy plants or scions. I know opinions differ, as does location. Looking to add at least one more larger tree, and purchase some scions? Any comments are as always appreciated.

If youíre interested in nice sized 5gal vista white which fruits, pm me. I have a few grafted with a second variety.

What variety of cherylata.?

Painterís Cherilata. What other varieties do you know of?

I also have a really nice 5 gal cherilata.

Iíll have to check what I have on your list but I do know that I have grafted trees of  fortuna, Fernandez custard apple, Rosada Ilama.

Good luck! It wonít be an arm and a leg. Itíll be your soul.

I did/do have Adam's (AKME) Peluche and the fruit seemed to be the same large fruits. There was a slight difference in the taste of his Peluche and the other Peluche I have from Adam (FFF), so you never know how true they are. I did hear there are a few variants of the Peluche floating around.

The Ďvariantsí that I heard about were people believe there is a white and an orange peluche. This stemmed from Adamís post of his fruit which were not fully ripened. He confirmed that he has only one type and that when left to fully ripen, turned more orange.

If by comprehensive you mean, named and wrote good descriptionís for a bunch of new seedlings ?
No one is chasing his seedling selections, they are like you after the tried and true top varieties.

All the good known cultivars are available here from Kaz , Jeremy , or myself . Long before Akme Adam started making up new cultivars and ripping everyone off. A good website and well written descriptionís can be a facade ya know.

Not Novak but Avri and a couple others I made the same mistake and finally today disputed the charge. I gave them 3 weeks and 2 emails to reply to, but no response. Really is a shame, as they seem to be the only comprehensive loquat scionwood source. Others have some but itís limited. Good luck!

On the varieties that were known named varieties, do you know if they were true?

Welp I unfortunately got my hopes up ordering a loquat scion from Akme Garden. Then I seen all the negative stuff going around. I guess I'm going to call my bank and get it cancelled unfortunately. But since I have to cancel my previous order, does anyone have the Novak loquat and could let go of a scion by chance?

I have a nice 5 gal tree grafted with Novak and Vista White. Itís a fruiting tree.

Here's a comment from Luis who grows many different fruit trees and he just tasted his Peluche fruits.

I second this. I didnít get fruits this year, but last year, they were so good. Mine also got an incredible tropical fruity flavor and were like no other loquat Iíve tried.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB - Dwarf Fiji Coconut

Hi - I am looking for Dwarf Fiji Coconut in SW FL. Let me know if you have one or see anywhere for sale?

Dustin at Dís trees is the man. He specializes in them.

reply to both Kevins.

Yes, they are still in the original 3 gallon pots, just checked today and it looks like only one is alive, but still hoping the other two will recover from the complete leaf drops. Maybe I will take one of the dead looking plant out and re-pot it with the expensive ProMix-Hp soil.

Kevin, I agree, I think I tired a few plants years ago and they died in pots. If these die again, I may try one last time and keep them in a greenhouse (DYI) with some control of humidity.

If this fails, then it will be a long time, but will grow seeds like Benjamin says. Maybe he has some seedling for sale soon.
I just planted seeds. Will have some (not so) soon.

Quick update on rooting the cuttings.

I have feeback from a few people that have been trying to root the cuttings of this Big Yellow passion fruit.

1. Don't root in water, most have died.
2. Plant in a pot, solil mix (some perlite, or catcus mix), bottom heat if you have it.

A few people have said their cuttings have started to show signs of growth.

Let me know if anyone else has success with the Dennis Big Yellow passion fruit cuttings.

Out of 4 cuttings, I have 1 left and I can see a root through the bag. Fingers crossed.

Those look so healthy! I am having really bad luck with mine. What soil percent do you do? Half peat half perlite? What do you do during winter? I had a nice healthy one die in my garage during winter while it was under grow lights.
They're easy to grow from seed.  I got about 50% germination.  I have a couple trees (not for sale) that made fruit after about 2 years grown from seed.  They're about 3 years old now and have lots of flowers.  I'm in WA and they've adapted well to my greenhouse and summer climate.  If you're interested to see mine, I made a short video last month.

Honestly think itís pointless to grow in most of CA. Iíve had plenty of healthy ones and they just decline til dead.

I got to try these once and really enjoyed them. From a CA fruiting tree. Even my little one tried them and enjoyed them.
