Tropical Fruit Discussion / Need advice on whether to ask for a refund
« on: January 16, 2022, 12:59:51 AM »
This isn't tropical, but, I think I'll get more views here and I need advice.   I purchased at Cox's orange pippen grafted apple tree and it came with about 95% of the graft broken.  There is still a tiny amount.  I want opinions if I should demand a refund/or new plant or will it recover?

Can't say anything about the tree, but hang in there with that dog.  We have a blue heeler as well.  The first year, it was like living with a Tasmanian devil.  After that, she calmed down and has been the best, most loving dog I have ever had.  Such a wonderful breed.

I want to do a patio, dwarf mango.   From things I've read, the seem to be 2 very good choices.  Can anyone give pros and cons on each?

Hi, I sent you a message, but never heard back.  I would to order a tree, but I do not know much about them.  Are they self fertile?  Do I have to buy 2 of one variety, 1 of 2 different varieties or can I just buy one tree.
I would very much like to get in on the order.

To tedburn, it could be that owari Satsuma may need more summer heat to increase flavor?

So, when it says 5,00 cada, is that $5 a seed or $5 for ten seeds

I've heard that the Mexican cream's from the big box stores are either mislabeled or of poor quality.
I find the red guava is better for juicing.  Fron what I understand, barbie pink ruby x Supreme are best pink varieties.

I moved to AZ in 2012.  In a townhouse and most of backyard is concrete.  Has to bust out concrete. Remove it, fix the soil and then started planting.  First planted owari Satsuma, which hasn't fruited yet, then Kisha, then blood orange.  Everything I planted was small, so, I guess just a long time to mature.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Taste of eugenias
« on: October 19, 2021, 12:46:12 AM »
The reason I got into Eugenias here in AZ originally is because when I moved out here in 2012, I asked my son what kind of tree to plant and he wanted a cherry tree.  Of course at the time, you could not grow cherries out here.  So I did some research and it said for cherry flavor, do cherry Rio grande, grumichama, or acerola.  Well, 9 years later, my grumichama and eugenia calycina continue to grow like snails, my acrrola tastes more like a tart raspberry than a cherry.  I know have a Nadia cherry plum and crimson cherry to plant over the winter and my son is off to college next year.  Kind of funny how things go.
But that leads me to my question, are there any eugenias or any other tropical fruit that tastes like an actual cherry?  I have heard many descriptions of a fruits taste on here, but I do not remember anyone saying a certain fruit tasted like a sweet cherry.

Thanks, guys.  I was really happy to see I have 2 fruit on it instead of one.  One of them is starting to yellow and the other is completely green.
Generally our coldest weather out here is in December, where it regularly goes into the low 40's to high 30's at night.  So, hopefully that will work well for coloration.   Not expecting it to taste great,  since it is the first crop, but still pretty stoked.  My first citrus fruit since I got 1 mandarin when I lived in VA in 2011.  I also found 1 Kisha.  So 3 fruit in 10 years?  I better pace myself.

Citrus General Discussion / Tarocco orange

My tarocco tree has 1 orange, it's first.  Not expecting anything to great from the first ever fruit.  But what is the proper time to pick and what should the fruit look like when it is ready.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Question on guava variety
« on: October 04, 2021, 12:49:06 AM »
I have a good spot for a dwarf guava in my garden.  For people that have grown both, which would recommend, p. Striatulum or p. Firmum.

I think you lucked out.  I heard for some reason the Mexican cream guava at Lowes produces sub par fruit.

Looking for something grafted or air layered.  Not concerned about variety, I have one already in bloom, looking for a pollinator.

Got plants today.  Not sure how he does it, but. Kevin gets things to your house lightning fast.  Plants were a nice size, extremely healthy and no damage on shipping.

I have purchased 2 plants this summer in the desert heat.  Both arrived perfect and I have been very pleased with the purchases.

I am horrible at growing from seed.  So, I get my best germination rates when I plant seeds and forget about them.  However, the problem often becomes later ID.  Can anyone tell me what these 3 seedlings might be?

I have purchased multiple plants from abimael. The 2 ordered thus time came perfect. Recommend highly purchasing from thisman, always a quality purchase.

Got his psidium a few days after purchase.  Order arrived quickly, plant was in perfect condition and packed professionally.   Very pleased with purchase.

I just wanted to post that I ordered a cedar bay cherry from Kevin.  I live in AZ and it came on a 100+ plus day.
The plant came in excellent condition, not even a wilted leaf and I got the plant in less than 48 hours from purchase.  Was a nice sized plant for the money.
