Our mulberries seem to be behind others in California. Got to taste a few side by side this week of the fruit grown at our farm in Fallbrook. Red Himalyan DMOR9 was probably the sweetest, flavor seemed similar to Black Pakistan but fruit was skinnier, less juicy. Dwarf everbearing was very bland with small fruits, I'm going to remove the plant. Thai dwarf was my husband's favorite, and we all thought it was good. Earlier fruit was not as sweet, but this current crop is sweet and acid and tastes the most like a blackberry and the fruits are firm. I love this plant. Planted as a small 1 gallon rooted cutting last year and already about 8 feet tall and producing an abundant crop. Looks like buds are forming already for another round. Not sure why others in SoCal think it is bland, I'm going to start a lot more plants at the farm so there's plenty for the birds and us. The Thai Dwarf at my home garden in Laguna Beach also gets sweet even without the warm temps, our highs have only been in the 60's most of the spring. Only got a couple Sahararanpur that were ripe, most are still green, it was very sweet with different flavor than the DMOR9. I have read that Saharanpur, White Pakistan, and Australian green are the same, but the leaves on my White Pakistan are definitely different than the Sahararanpur. It hasn't fruited yet to compare the fruits. Still have several more varieties I'm trialing. Noir de Spain has only started to leaf out a couple of weeks ago. Buds on the Noir de Spain are noticeably different looking than all the other mulberries I grow. Didn't take any pics.

I just had my first surinam cherry. Does anyone prefer the red variety over the darker hue varieties? Seems like everyone likes the darks more

Not sure if all the same tree, but the lowest photo looks like my lamb hass I bought. The wiggly leaf edge is what I am noting is the same.
K-Rimes: is your Lamb Hass has red fleckles on stems?
Yes I am looking for cuttings to root. They seem to root fairly easy and fruit fast from cuttings or seed. Yes they are a different genus.
I am in 8b/9a and some will do great outside here from what I read. However I do research on Musa and have a lot of greenhouse space for the more tropical types.
I would love buy some of your large sweet cream guava cuttings! Any growing or rooting advice would be amazing also. I’m totally new to guava and most other tropical fruit trees. However I’m already quite addicted lol.

Definetely a win-win no compromise loss with chickens. My daughter's chickens work until they retire. About 80% of our kitchen green waste gets processed by the chickens. Then the "amended" pine shavings/straw goes into the compost pile with the other 20% and yard refuse.
Good fresh eggs and compost for the plants. The 10 year old retiree "managees" the young (8 month olds) flock for us. Talk about a stern and vicious overload. I mix the chicken compost with a couple of yards from the calpoly dairy and along occasionally with fish emulsion, seems good enough for the for the year. I do have a couple of bags of the $11 deal and some other organic just in case.
Water is the greater concern this year. Those who have been conserving too well are getting squeegeed big time.
K- rimes, thanks for the suggestion regarding watering,u said after flowering the water to be lowered and not before that ,right?
My two greenhouse plants are getting gigantic ( by Bulgarian dragon fruit standards ), really want them to flower this year, i havent been watering them alot, just enough to keep the slightly moist.
Is there a season to their flowering in similar climates as mine or do they just flower when they feel like it, i wonder.....?
That's great!!! I have a Peruvian apple catus. I tried and tried with the dragons but couldn't make them work.t
What do u think u messed up with the dragofruit?? I am asking since i grow them and they are an easy plant for me....
I got $100 on the tree was overcut by someone that does not know how to prune Jaboticaba.
But that’s another story really.
I planted these about a year ago and the Vietnamese white has some flower buds forming. Is there a way to tell when the flower will open so I don't miss my chance to pollinate the open flower? I see some ants on there and going to do a spray of neem oil, soap and seaweed extract to help fight any aphids plus give some nutrients. Thanks for any tips to help increase chances of fruit set and plant health.
