Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Fresh INGA pods DELICIOUS!!

Just got in there. Quite nice! Sweeter than I expected, with a pleasant flavor. Not very complex. My kid liked it too.

That’s awesome! It’s definitely a fun treat. I have my older fruiting tree and would be curious if you thought it was better. I feel it may have a notch or two better flavor. They weren’t ready when I filled these orders because most split and molded during the storm. There are pods ripening now.

Pods arrived today, thank you very much!

I've never had these before. Are they ready to eat now, or should I wait for any changes?

Go at them! The white coating that you eat should slide right off those seeds. I’ve never tested how long they stay good for off the tree, but I did my best to pick ones that were ready to go. Would love to hear what you think of them!

2/12 update
Thanks for everyone’s patience. We had some major storms last week so I waited for this week to harvest and ship. I shipped many orders and have sent updates to those orders which shipped today. More pods should be ripening over the next week, and I expect to have the remaining orders filled.

There are more pods on the tree growing, so put your orders in!

What species are they?
I’ve always assumed they were fueillei but Ingas don’t seem so straight forward in ID’ing. Some people say Vera but the info I have found don’t seem to indicate that. Maybe a hybrid?

They are delicious and juicy though!

I love Matt's Giant sapote, probably the best variety in the states (though not much to compare to). Superb size and flavor and the OG tree is gorgeous. I wish my grafts had been successful; im too embarrassed to ask Matt for more scionwood lol.

But I was fortunate to get in touch with him and view his enormous farm in Homestead; he's put a lot of effort into Jacks and mangos. He expressed dissatisfaction with nurseries selling Matts Giant/Matt Snow since he had no quality control with that and someone supposedly shared that budwood against his directly expressed wishes. Anything on eBay is definitely not it.

If you have the opportunity to get in contact with him and/or travel down to Homestead, I would recommend it. Super nice guy and more than willing to share if you're kind and respectful.

Do you have a picture of the fruit?

I’m cutting scions today to fill orders. Still offering these varieties at this low price so don’t miss out!

Just received my Cuccio tree from Jeremy/RevivalR00ts earlier today. Packaging was very secure and tree is nice and healthy! Very pleased and would def recommend him as a reputable seller.

Looking forward to buying some scions of Vernon from you once it warms up where I'm at, thanks again Jeremy!

Hi Rumen, I truly appreciate your support and especially appreciate the kind words. I’m happy to hear the tree made it safely and I hope it grows well for you. That thing is ready for a transplant and I’m certain as soon as you do, you will see an explosion of growth. When you are ready to add more varieties, hit me up, this year, I should have quite a lot available.

In my experience, RevivalR00ts has always been an absolute pleasure to work with and buy from. I can't imagine that a well-renowned seller with a massive collection is going to be hoarding scions from a giveaway to sell, especially... mulberries. The only issues I've ever experienced is accidentally killing the wonderful things I have purchased  ;)

With that, Nate, you also have a great reputation on the forum, though I don't think I have purchased from you personally. Its pretty obvious that your initial comment was retaliatory from the burkartiana post, and I think that the issue you described here could likely be addressed privately before stirring up the pot on forum posts, regardless of prior disagreements and/or differences of opinions.

This is a forum to share a wealth of knowledge and material to expand fruit growing, not a place for drama. I think all parties should treat each other with kindness and respect, whether its a species correction, disagreement, or sales post, as that will only improve the efficacy of the TFF  ;D

Onward from that, anyone interested in these mulberry varieties should definitely contact RevivalR00ts while available! Looks like some interesting Persian varieties that I'm not really familiar with.

I appreciate that brother. Please reach out to me and let me know what you want!

Are you really selling scions for profit you got for FREE that people donated for the Orange County Rare Fruit Growers Scion Exchange that took place last weekend? If so you should be banned from the event next year.

Wow, you really are bitter because of me pointing out your burkartiana listing. Pretty aggressive accusing me of that and threatening me. These are fresh cut to order off my established trees, so thanks for your concern.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the Burkartiana listing but I figured you would think that, I would call out anyone who sold scions from a free scion exchange that are meant for peoples gardens and not meant to be sold for profit. What a surprise you’re denying it...especially when I saw you walking around with a giant bag at the exchange...I hope I’m wrong and you’re not really that low, but I have talked with a couple forum members who have dealt with you and they both said you’re shady.

You have no basis for accusing me of taking these scions, which I’m offering here, from the CRFG scion exchange. I have two large trees from which these scions will be cut. I don’t appreciate the false accusations.

My basis is I saw you stuffing your giant bag and now all of a sudden you’re selling the same exact scions that were at the exchange, interesting timing! And to top it off I didn’t see you donating anything! It pisses me off because I donated scions, and those scions weren’t meant to be sold. I wonder how many members missed out on scions because of your greed. It’s not right what you’re doing.

The only Mulberry Scions, that were there was Shangri-La and Pakistani. None of the other ones were offered there. Since I already have those varieties growing, I did not take any Scions. If you would like a video of me, cutting the scions from the trees as I fulfill orders, by all means. And I guess you know everything because since you didn’t see me donate all of the grape scions that I did it didn’t happen, right? You are way off course here.

Hi all,

Just my point of view. I have spoken to many collectors and experts in Brazil. Many agree that the purple fruiting species is the true Eugenia burkartiana. I have chosen to start using Eugenia sp. "Pitangão Amarelo da Unicamp" (I need to update our listing, I do admit) to identify the yellow fruit Helton has provided to the community.

This is directly from his website:
"INDIGENOUS NAME:  PITANGA-ACEROLA (because it has a similar taste). It is also called the Yellow Pitangão of Unicamp."

Furthermore, if you refer to the botanical archives the leaves and native region of Eugenia burkartiana align with the purple fruit found by Fabio in Santa Catharina

https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:98140-2

This is an ongoing discussion that I believe is still somewhat undecided. I think it is more important that the community is informed. Joe, Kam, and I imported the seeds around the same time, and at first, we all were following Helton's distinction. As Joe has stated Helton has vast knowledge and is one of the most trustworthy collectors in Brazil. But, science and botany are ever-evolving, and sometimes names need to be updated and the community informed (I have put this explanation in my eBay listings of Eugenia sp. "Pitangão Amarelo da Unicamp"). No one is intentionally naming species incorrectly. Both of these species are very special and should be in any serious Eugenia collection.

Another option is to distinguish based on the collectors:
Yellow fruit: Eugenia burkartiana "H. Josue"
Purple fruit:  Eugenia burkartiana "F. Longen"

I hope this helps!

I appreciate the clarification Steve! I think it’d be important to maintain ‘Yellow Pitangão of Unicamp." That will help to keep the distinction between the two.

Ya man 100% Positive. Seeds were purchased from the man himself Hapa Joe in June 2022. In case you didn’t know he actually goes into the jungle and collects the seeds HIMSELF, so these cane directly from the source, no middle man. So how would you like to pay Jeremy?  😉

So I confirmed with Joe that yours it NOT the same as what’s being sold on eBay by both Kam and Steven as Eugenia burkartiana. Yours from Joe is what’s pictured.

Lol and yes, by the pure definition of middle man, you absolutely purchased from a middle man. But anywho, now there are some questions as what Helton has described as burkartiana is different than whatever source Kam and Steven are getting as Burkartiana.

Thanks for the heads up Jeremy! I didn’t realize I had the more rare variety from Helton Josue!!! Maybe I should charge more  :)

After talking with a couple trustworthy sources, this one that you’re offering should not be referred to as burkartiana but unicamp instead.

You can’t just go around re-naming stuff dude...Who are your trustworthy sources? I assume they are more trustworthy than Helton Josue? He’s the one who identified the seedling I’m selling. Anyways the fruit from the seedling I’m selling has actually been tasted by Hapa Joe at Heltons place and he’s confirmed the taste is excellent, he described it as slightly tart but juicy.”

Also Anderson Tropicals has the same picture of the fruit being posted and it’s listed as Eugenia Burkartiana (Pitanga Acerola) He was selling seeds for $25 each and he’s sold out, so I guess a lot of people have the wrong thing, according to you. Isn’t Anderson Tropicals a trusted source? I guess you need to call him out too.

I think you’ve completely missed anything that I’ve said. I have not renamed anything and Steven Anderson of Anderson tropicals is one of the sources that I’m referring to and if it has not been updated already, he is updating that listing on his page to remove the name Burkartiana.

Truthfully have a hard time trusting ID's unless its from a source that has background in botany/systematics.  I think there's a lot of people in the fruit world that are basing IDs on sight alone whereas it is a much more complicated process than that. I.e. a lot of the psidiums that have gone around/are in my collection have very dubious ID's

Totally hear ya. I definitely could not tell you what is what, but from a standpoint of keeping consistency of what is what going around, those are the names that have been stated. So I guess until proven otherwise, it’d make sense to maintain those names.
