Longan & CRYSTAL Seedless Guava Scions
« on: February 27, 2018, 07:48:08 PM »
Most sought after crunchy Asian guava. It is sweet, tart and the crispiest guava I ever had. 95% of the guava trees I have has been top worked to Crystal seedless. Local nurseries are selling 5 gal trees for $90-$120 if you can even find them.

Also the most prolific seedlessvbearer. Bears fruit in clusters. Must thin to get bigger fruits. Most of the crunchy seedless guavas are shy bearers.

$5 ea. minimum 4 scions. Shipping is $3.5 for first class or $7.5 for priority mail. Paypal is shenxue@gmail.com. Please send as friend or family.

Thanks Socal0b

No international shipping for now.sorry.

Guavas and other trees have much higher success rate when grafted onto young tender shoots.

Pick up in Rosemead during the day.

Still have some left, Xue? I'd need 8 scions as guava is super hard to graft. Let me know and I'll send the Paypal.

No idea what you’re talking about. Everyone who tried my fruit loved it. I was even able to convince mom guava eaters to plant one after trying it. Both fruit and trees are high demand.

Sorry Simon. I've been top working trees that are in ground only. I stopped grafting onto stand alone trees after Mimosa stopped selling seedings for $5 bucks.

Hi Patrick. I like them slightly under ripe with a slight shade of light green. When fruit starts to develop a shade of white/yellow, it loses a lot of that crispy texture but the fruit develops that tropical guava flavor and it becomes much sweeter.

My asian guavas are about to turn yellow. Yet it is still super crunchy and sweet with a bit of acid and guava flavor, with juice as well.   oval looking and smooth surface.

I have three different varieties that are about ready to eat right now.   One of them was started from a seed I bought back from Hanoi.
The other two varieties were started from seeds from my cousin and aunt's tree.   One is elongated oval looks similar to the hanoii, but surface is  crooked.  The other is more rounded like an apple.

This is the first time they are so late to harvest.  best flavors compare to other previous years.  Next year, I will let the fruits hang onto the tree longer to get the sweet, acidic, guava flavors so that it doesn't taste like cardboard.

I just grafted a ton of longans and lychee. I got some pushing now. It's still warm during the day.

Crystal seedless guava...A short bushy tree...but yields a lot of fruit.  Xue made this tree for me and I finally got it planted in the ground this year.
Well worth it.  Xue always delivers great quality scions too.

Most of my guava cleft grafts have flattened graft unions, meaning poor graft unions.
Now I prefer bark graft.

Is there a better way than cleft when scion and rootstock thickness is the same?
Flattening cleft unions just means the scion is growing or thickening faster than the rootstock.
This may be temporary and the union will grow round later when the rootstock catches up.

Exactly. Most guavas have flattened graft unions for the first year. But eventually they catch up. I have some several year old guava cleft grafts where the graft union is barely discernible any more.

I've also had good success with whip & tongue graft on guava.  Grafted Crystal Seedless and Crystal on Ruby Supreme and Psidium Guineense.

Are there two different Crystal guavas???  What's the leave shape of your Crystal guava?

My Crystal guava has round leaves.  I got my Crystal and Pearl scions from someone in SoCal.
I'm assuming it's from Taiwan because his two other guavas are Pearl and Century .
He said the Crystal is near seedless, crisp, very sweet, sets fruit poorly and has compact growth.

Xue's Crystal Seedless guava has normal pointed leaves.  Same as what I saw from tropical bonsai nursery.

You may have mislabeled your Crystal Seedless. There is also the Seedless guava which has the rounder leaves. I have both grafted and the Seedless guava has the round leaf.

Here's my Crystal Seedless from xshen.

Brad, Sak Ip is suppose to be the best, I have one grafted Sak Ip (1-1/2yrs old) which has flowers/fruits now. I should be able to compare the taste of the fruit with my Kohala this year.
