I wish i live in Florida for the price of the plant.  There must be a cheaper way of purchasing plants in California.

Not especially. The variety in question is patented, and I believe Gary is the sole wholesale distributor, but you could try to get local nurseries to stock the variety or order you a tree, but I don't think the price will be much lower. The risk of losing plants on inspection is high enough that few are interested in doing it for what most would consider reasonable.

Cheapest way going is importing budwood and grafting your own, but not all varieties are off-patent.

Mimosa Nursery in LA has some Coconut Cream trees for $180 but they are on turpentine root stock.

I was there over the weekend and saw a row of them. Must have arrived recently from Florida.
