Phoenix mango? Doesn't look like it
« on: September 17, 2019, 11:26:29 PM »
I got this tree as Phoenix from Lynn in Florida. Does it look like Phoenix? If not, what could this mystery mango be? It came from Zills with Zills tag.

Compare the leaves of ur phoenix to this one.

Lynn sourced my tree directly from PIN.

Which i hope its not mislabeled.

What do you think this looks like Alex? Can you post pictures of leaves?

Also, Hi Alex, how would you rate Phoenix against Lemon Zest or say Orange Sherbert or say M4. or what would you compare it to?

That's a beautiful fruit. Any reason it hasn't been promoted commercially?
Like thin skin or short shelf life?

A little premature to make any conclusions on it because there aren’t enough fruiting specimens yet. Ours were outstanding this year though.

All the trees I bought from her had yellow tags on them from zills I assume.  I doubt she was intentionally shipping mislabeled trees.  The downsizing of the pots is another story and the reason I will never order from her again.  It really screws the trees up to mess with their roots and then sit in a box for 5 days.

one of our friends never got his final order and she disappeared after that. Rumor was she moved to another state. Friend was able to get his money back via chargeback claim. This is not the first time Zills put a mislabel. Once I bought Imam Pasand from Lynn, which came from Zill. Upon communicating with Zills with Lynn and Gary Zill, Zills agreed the variety was not Imam pasand and send me replacement. I wonder if Zills wound stand behind this one, how do I contact? last time it was text and I lost those contacts.

Lynn had a nice website for a few months then it shutdown really quick.  I had bought some things off her website and never got them and then hunted her down on the phone or email and let her know.  She did send the plants eventually but it was pretty bad customer service.  And of course every lychee tree I ever got from her died because she screwed with the root balls and stuff them in downsized pots.  I still have a lot of mango trees from her.  They take that abuse better than lychees.  My taralay tree looks really nice.  Its been in the ground about a year.

I too had business in past with Lynn and got some really specimen from her

But as pointed out earlier , her shipments were in question and put plants in unnecessary stress

Survival rate of lychee was 15 to 25% and mango trees drop most of its leaves before recovering

From last two year I was getting trees from Jim (Ebay) , bit expensive but ship tree in pots , and then the survival rate was more then 80% for lychee and mango tree recover in no time with no min leave drop

But sadly he passed away this year and now I think her daughter take over the business and shipping tree out , already got two good size 7 gal mango tree and next week “ little gem” (3 gal ) on its way

Thinking about supporting them more from now on , very good service and very response

Pls PM me for contact info

The Taralay I tried at the tasting this year was pretty excellent, sap flavor of parsnip (I think this has to be the "Indochinese" flavor) and a flesh flavor of yellow peach similar to Valencia Pride.

I think its popularity will increase, as the flavors are appreciable to most, as a contrast to the Maha Chanok, which has the same sap flavor, but the flesh flavor is a deeper musky fruit flavor similar to a flavor found in durio.

Taralay is for the masses, Maha is a little too far from the norm, but still awesome.

Same experience with barretts tree nursery.  They are still selling on ebay.  All his lychee trees are alive.  He didnt screw with the roots at all.
