Belian wood is heavy hardwood (835kg ~ 1,185 kg/m3) and high of market value.
The wood does not rot easily for long time. The stumps of logged Belian trees are still around century after they were felled.
Belian wood does not float in water. The wood is excellent resistance to weather, water, bacterial, fungal, insect and marine borer attack.
The wood's high density and easy workability lend it to particularly desirability in maritime structures, dock construction and ship building.
Common local uses include: House construction, door construction, water butts and troughs, boat building, tools, tool handles, talisman, jewellery,
medicinal slivers (for wounds, cuts, abrasions, bites and tooth-ache/infection), bridges, blowpipes, spear shafts, measuring poles, electric wire poles, artwork and many else.
The Belian wood is also use for Black Pepper pillars in Borneo. Dayak longhouse usually built using Belian wood due to its high resistances from water and insert attack.
It is also valued highly as coffin wood by the Chinese.
