Cherry of the Rio Grande in Containers. What type of soil?
« on: March 03, 2022, 02:00:30 PM »
I bought a 1-2 year old Cherry of the Rio Grande from Exotica Nursery in Vista CA about a year ago. It has grown a ton from a few feet to now over 6 feet. I have this in the original nursery pot and soil. I want to move it to a bigger pot. Any thoughts on type of soil? I was thinking of using Gary's Top Pot soil as I have a few bags of that.

When I bought it:

I use FoxFarm Ocean forest mostly, sometimes I throw in some peat moss when I have it around. CORGs are not picky at all, they grow like stink. I also top mine annually, sometimes twice a year, with chicken manure from home depot. They also really like Holly Tone.

Looking at your weather and looks to be the same as mine. You could also put it in the ground mine has been very cold tolerant.

I have limited in ground space so until a plant proves itself, it stays in containers :)

Good to know. I am going to use the Top Pot soil then.

CORG doesn't seem too picky about soil... just make sure it drains well.

I would say under ideal growing condition... 3 years.
I just noticed this morning that my Nelita Mother plants are budding-up.
Good Luck!
