Coccinia species. Beyond tindora.
« on: March 24, 2022, 11:00:41 PM »
I grow tindora (coccinia grandis) which is very productive and easy. I often hear it called perennial cucumber, but this is not quite a good description. Green I prefer it cooked or pickled, red and ripe i enjoy it raw. I Anyone grow any other species?

You have piqued my curiosity. Is tindora bothered by pickle worms and mildew? And an even bigger question--is it tasty?

I enjoy it quite a bit. Doesn't seem to have any disease problems here in sarasota, FL. Just ate some a few days ago. Thicker skinned than typical cuke, but crunchy and nice mild flavor.
I'm also experimenting with some other cucurbit cucumber alternatives for florida summer, cucumber metuliferus the jelly melon or african horned and burr gherkin cucumber anguria. Can't report on those yet.
Maybe I should have made this thread about cucumber alternatives...
