Tropical Fruit Discussion / How to make Surinam Cherry taste better?
« on: August 24, 2021, 12:57:05 AM »
Here is what I did.  Put the Surinam cherry in a bowl of cold water and let it sit for few hours.  That is make it taste a lot better. If not eat the peel, totally tasty.  Cold water is cold not room temperature water.  Add ice to it is even better.

My pummelo tree is flowering now.  I grow it from seed.  Last year is the first year of flowering and only with one flower.  I didn't got the chance to try it due to a cut on the peel while I topwork the tree.  Hope I can have couple of them to try this year.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Taiwan guava
« on: October 25, 2020, 08:28:25 PM »
I brought this taiwan guava from the local supermarket.  It is big, crunchy, not too much of the guava favor, it is more like eating a crunchy pear.   It looks like a emperor or pearl guava compared the pictures online.  I am going to germinate some of the seeds.  Hope it come out true.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / PPC self-pollination?
« on: August 02, 2020, 12:19:22 PM »
I grafted couple scions of the PPC to a cherimoya rootstock early this spring.  I want the scions grow bigger so I didn't hand pollinated any of the flowers.  Even though most of the flowers dropped, but I still have 3 fruits.  Is PPC self-pollination?

Thanks,
Al
