After having dismal success rates grafting citrus using cleft grafts, I switched to chip/bud grafting and am having much better success. I’m still only at about 50% success but it is much better than before. I’ve done plenty of successful cleft grafts on apple and pear so I think my technique is not too bad. I am also surprised at how fast bud grafts grow once they take. It’s counterintuitive but my citrus bud grafts from last year have grown incredibly and have significantly surpassed my previous years’ citrus cleft grafts in overall size. Thought I’d post this for anyone who has been discouraged by their citrus grafting results.
