I just cut back a old Fuyu persimmon tree of my neighbors tree so there are plenty of fresh cuttings to be used for grafting.
If you have any other variety of persimmon, then I would like to make a trade with you. These Fuyu trees produces hundreds (maybe 750) fruits per tree so if you have a tree that isn't fruiting then you should graft some branches with this Fuyu. Fruits are seedless, non-astringent, medium sweetness. Flesh is firm like an apple.

If you want to just buy the cuttings, then it will be $4 each plus $9.20 shipping cost (USPS priority mail).

Also have limited Hayakume persimmon cuttings.

Here's a few photos of the tree from previous years, and some with green fruits this year. The fruits are not that large, on the small side, maybe 2-3 inches in diameter, if you thin the fruits they will get just a little larger.

Send me a message if you're interested in a trade.
For lower 48 states, no newbies that have not been a forum member for at least 6 months.

Here's the fruits on the tree a few years ago.

Here's the tree this year.

Here's some of the fruits that were removed/thinned out this year (200-300).

Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Sweet Potato
« on: November 10, 2021, 05:22:44 PM »
Anyone growing sweet potatos ?

Can you grow sweet potatos in a pot or a bed container?  I don't have much space to let the vine grow in ground so just wondering if anyone is growing these sweet potatos in a enclosed planter?

I have the Okinawa/Molokai sweet potato (purple color inside) and it goes well but not getting any potato since I don't have space to let the roots run underground. I had one potato that grew under one of my planters (over cement) and it looked like a pancake potato with roots.

If you have any purple sweet potatoes, please post some photos of your tuber.

The world's record potato, weighs 17 lbs.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Dragon Fruit - Hand Pollination
« on: November 06, 2021, 04:34:52 PM »
I have a question on hand pollination of DF flowers. The DF thread is to long to read through every post so I will ask my question here.

I have a yellow dragon fruit that has 5 flowers on it. One flower already bloomed and I think I hand pollinated it ok. My question is before the next 4 flowers open, how do you know if the hand pollinated flower is good and will be making a fruit?

I hand pollinated the flower last week, and it appears that the stem of the flower area is starting to swell so I'm assuming there will be a fruit. I will post a few photos of the first flower.

If anyone can tell me how long after you hand pollinate that you will see the results and how long does it take before the fruit grow and ripens that would help out.

Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / First Flowers on Liliko Passion Fruit
« on: October 31, 2021, 06:19:39 PM »
I'm really happy to see my first Lilikoi flowers this week. Does anyone here grow Lilikoi?
I bought this sweet Lilikoi abut 5 years ago and the vine grew fast so I let it grow up my large pomelo tree and it has not had any flowers until this year.

If you do, I would like to ask if you hand pollinate to get fruits to set or if they will have fruits with no hand pollination.
Also, how long do you think my flower will stay open to hand pollinate it. I have one flower open today and I see two more flowers still closed but should open in a few more days-a week.

I have some small rootstock white sapote seedling plants that I'm thinking of grafting different varieties now.

Just curious if there is any interest in placing an advance order of my grafted white sapote on seedling plant.
The rootstock are only 1 yr olds so not that large (12"-18") that will be cut & grafted.

I can graft the following variety on each rootstock [only 1 graft per plant]:
- Younghan's Gold, $35
- Supersweet, $35
- Bonita Springs, $35
- Redlands, $35
- Fairhaven, $40
- Walton, $40
- Lemon Gold, $40
- Santa Cruz, $40
- Sunset, $45

I purchased all these scions from reliable forum members, I did not get any fruits on these varieties yet but all of my grafts (1-2yrs) have flowers/small fruits on the branches now. If any variety I sell you is not the correct one, I will refund the cost ( less shipping).

The total cost will be the above cost for the grafted variety plus shipping cost (could range from $20-$30), USPS priority mail.

If I get 5 orders then I will plan to do these grafts, otherwise I will graft for myself on these seedlings.

I have maybe 5-10 rootstocks that I plan to graft so the first 5 people on the Advance Wait list will have priority for the purchase in Spring 2022. If I graft now, the plant should be ready to ship by spring 2022.

You will be put on my Wait List, no payment until I'm ready to ship.
Before you make payment, I will send you a photo of the grafted plant and then you can finalize it.

This offer is for anyone that has been a forum member for at least 1 year, no newbies.
->Please order only 1 grafted plant so others can be on this short list.
Seller has option to refuse to sell to anyone.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Starfruit- Anyone Growing It ?
« on: October 27, 2021, 02:31:27 AM »
Anyone here growing starfuit (Carambola) ? I'm thinking of planting one tree but was not sure if there is a good reason to grow it.

I bought a few fruits from the market and it was not sweet, so not sure how you are suppose to eat it.  I have a few questions for those who like it and grow this fruit tree:

-Is there any health benefit in eating it?
-How do you eat the fruit ?

I noticed these fruits were pretty expensive at the market, don't know why. I saw this tree with all these fruits so I am considering getting a plant.

Citrus General Discussion / Lemon tree with wavy leaves
« on: October 19, 2021, 03:13:36 AM »
Is anyone growing the new Winters Seedless Eureka Lemon?

"WINTERS SEEDLESS EUREKA LEMON, VI-909" --- UCR variety data budwood.

I grafted some budwood about 1-1/2 years ago and this one grows fast, already has some nice size fruits. I wanted to know if anyone else has this variety and if they noticed that the leaves are very wavy on this lemon. I haven't seen any citrus variety with wavy leaves like this.

I will take a few photos tomorrow and post it here. I have the Seedless Lisbon and it has normal leaves. Also the Eureka lemon (with seeds) has normal looking leaves.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help ID - Cherimoya variety
« on: September 07, 2021, 11:22:29 PM »
I have an older cherimoya tree (15+yrs) that gives a few fruits a year, I plan to top work this tree but I wanted to check with anyone here about the variety. I don't remember what variety it was, a friend gave the small plant to me. When it sets fruit, they get pretty large ( 1 lb) and tastes sweet. The tree is large (8" trunk diameter) and get over 18 ft if I don't trim the branches each year to 10 ft.

Here's some photos of my tree and the large leaves it has. If anyone can tell the variety from the leaves then please let me know. I don't have any fruit photos of this tree.

Citrus General Discussion / Xie Shan- fruit photos
« on: August 17, 2021, 03:16:19 AM »
Just curious if anyone that is growing Xie Shan has a few photos of their fruits. They may not be ripe yet but I would still like to compare the shape/skin of the green fruits if you can take a photo and post it.

My grafted tree/branches will have some ripe fruits this year and I wanted to know if the Xie Shan fruits grow in clusters like a grape. My fruits seem to be all bunched up and I had to thin out some fruits. All of my grafted branches seem to have the fruits close together and needs to be thinned out.
