Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / For Sale: Nancy Avocado Fruits
« on: October 12, 2024, 08:37:06 PM »
This is for those of you who have purchased the Nancy avocado scionwood cuttings from me. I just cut 1/3 of the large Nancy tree to trim it back to 14 ft tall.

So, I have picked off all the green fruits, they start to ripen on the tree from November to January here. I sorted the small ones and brushed ones out, so the ones I will send/sell to you are decent size fruit (still green), should ripen on the counter in 5-10 days.

There were about 700 fruits, 200 were either too small (not ready) or bruised so I will keep those to grow out the seeds, the 500 were good size, I got about 100 fruits, gave the rest to the tree owner.

For Sale:
1. Nancy avocado fruits, one box (medium flat rate) of 7-10 fruits per box.
2. Cost to Ship is $18
3. Total Cost is $35
4. Sale is for those states that allow shipment of fruits.
5. You must be a forum member and have purchased or traded with me for the Nancy avocado variety.
6. Will be shipping out on Monday, only 10 boxes.
7. Lower 48 states, put in your order before Monday for shipment out on Monday.
8. Payment with Paypal (Friends & Family) only.
9. No pickup, just shipping out boxes.

I'll post some photos of the tree and fruits later tonight.

Please send me a message if you are interested in buying and meet requirements above.

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Loquat: Big five star loquat
« on: September 14, 2024, 04:36:58 PM »
Has anyone grown this new loquat variety from China called "Big five-star loquat"?

I read it is supposed to be one of the top loquat fruit there. I did see some YouTube video of a guy picking the fruit and eating it.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NO1fkJAib44

I have seen some photos online, it looks like the flesh is orange, has only a few seeds and is supposed to taste excellent. If you have a grafted tree with the fruit, please post the photo of your fruit.

Citrus General Discussion / Nine Pound Lemon
« on: September 11, 2024, 05:44:52 PM »
Is anyone growing the Nine Pound Lemon variety?

I have my tree for over 5 years now, and it still does not get very large fruits. The largest fruit on it so far was only 2-3 lbs each.

If you have a fruit that is over 5 lbs on this variety, please post a photo, I would like to see that it will get that large.

I grafted a larger seedling mulberry tree I have been waiting to put my Sangue e Latte to keep for myself but changed my mind. I will now sell this grafted tree later this year.

I may also add my Contorted mulberry scion wood on this tree, and maybe the Australian Green mulberry.

So, if anyone who has purchased from me before wants to buy it later this year, let me know.

For Sale:
1. Grafted Sangue e Latte tree, has 2 grafts done this year
2. Additional graft of Contorted mulberry - To be added this week.
3. Additional graft of Australian mulberry - To be added this week.
4. May give you one more, the Skinner scion grafted if there is a good branch to use.
5. You must have purchased from me before, be a forum member for minimum of 1 year.
6. CA only, too large to ship it.
7. You can schedule a local pickup nearby.
8. Cost is $200 with at least the 3 grafts (items 1, 2, 3).

You will need to make the commitment to buy now, and I will remove this post.

If you are interested, then send me a message. This will not be sold (shipped) until the new grafts have healed so probably by Nov-Dec it can be picked up. You can pay me when it is ready for pickup.

I did another multi-grafted tree for someone else on our forum with 5-6 varieties and it grew well. That tree was much older (6-7 ft tall, 3" trunk diameter).

I'll post a few photos of the tree later showing the 2 Sangue e Latte grafted branches. It should grow fast in the next few months so may be a few feet long.

Looks like my Red Himalayan tree won't stop growing so fast. I had to cut some large branches again in just 3 months.

So, some of you will be able to buy (free) cuttings, just pay for the shipping cost.

Here's the cost for this cutting:
1. Red Himalayan cuttings, qty=6-8 per order, $0 (free)
   > the cuttings will be 1/4" - 3/4" diameter x 8-12" long approximately.
   > I will mix up the sizes so don't ask me for specific diameter.
2. Shipping cost for CA residence = $11, USPS priority mail, small/med flat rate box or equivalent. Box size is 5"x8" long or a little longer.
3. Shipping cost for non-CA residence = $18 USPS priority mail, medium flat rate box or equivalent.
   > Many of these cuttings have long leaf node spacing so it won't fit in a small flat rate box with 3-4 leaf nodes on it.

4. You must be a forum member for a minimum of 6 months and have either traded with me or sold/purchased from me in the past.
5. Sales to lower 48 states.
6. I only take PayPal only, Friends & Family.
7. I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone. If I don't reply to your message, that means I will not sell it to you.

So, these cuttings are free, but you will need to pay for the shipping cost ($11) or ($18) only.

Please send me your message and make payment by no later than Sunday night. I will start shipping as I get the payment.
Final orders must be paid by this Friday, I will ship the last orders out next Monday.

I'll post some photos of the random sizes of scion wood cuttings (mix) you will receive.

I forgot to mention these Red Himalayan mulberry cuttings are very difficult to root so it will be best for you to graft them.
I have not heard of anyone that has rooted these cuttings. Every once in a while, I put some cuttings in my pots and none have rooted yet.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / GEM avocado trees: Group Buy?
« on: September 02, 2024, 12:43:08 AM »
Is there any interest in buying some in-ground GEM avocado trees?

You would need to come dig it up, or I might be able to help dig some trees if I have time. These trees look to be 4yrs old, trunk may be around 3/4"-1" diameter. Height about 4ft tall.

The guy has them in an avocado field now, wants to remove all the trees so will not sell just 1 or 2 trees. He has hundreds for sale.

Depending on the total number of people that would buy it, minimum 200 trees, cost will range from $20-$50 each.
-> If I can get 200 total orders of these GEM trees, then the price may go down as low as $10 each (you dig up) but that is not firm, so I said expect $20 each. I will not mark up any cost, but if I need to help you dig then it will cost you more.
-> It would be good if anyone wanting to buy it orders a minimum qty=2 tree each or more, so we can reach this goal of 200.

I was hoping if we can get 100 GEM tree orders, then I might be able to work something out to have two groups of 100 orders for similar cost for each tree.

Here's the requirements if you are interested in buying a few:

1) If you are in forum member for 6 months and are interested in the trees, let me know here. Trees are in Temecula area. I estimate it would take you 30-45 minutes to dig one tree up.
2) You must have purchased, sold, or traded fruit tree cuttings with me before.
3) You will need to order minimum of 2 trees.
4) I have the right to refuse to sell it to anyone.
5) CA residence only, not going to be shipping these out after digging them.
6) If there is enough interest for 100+ trees then I will talk to the guy again.

===============Equipment to Bring to Dig==============
Basic tools:
1. Digging Fork (may not be useful if ground is hard)-optional
2. Pulasky Axe (may not be needed)-optional
3. Shovel, long narrow tip (Drain Spade Shovel), could be easier to use than normal spade shovel.
4. Loopers or hand pruner
5. Black plastic trash bag (large size)-for wraping roots when done for transport.

** If you have never dug up a fruit tree, I will instruct you on the tools & method.
=============================================

He only wants to deal with one person for the lot sales, so I can coordinate the purchase and supervise the digs.
Will probably pick a date later this year when the temperature comes down.

I'm thinking late October (temp about 80F), on a weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Time between 7am-10am.
If this goes, I can go there, red flag the trees that look good so he knows which ones we will be digging up, and I can take some photos of the trees we will dig up.

I had a visitor at our CRFG booth at the fair ask me what passionfruit variety they need to use as a pollinator for her Peruvian Honey Passion fruit.

Does anyone know if it is self-pollinating, she says the fruits don't form but gets flowers on the vine?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Any Info on Cherimoya Lima
« on: August 12, 2024, 11:28:12 PM »
I got a small seedling from Happa Joe that was labeled "cherimoya lima". Does anyone have one growing?

He was selling some small seedling plants when he came to our CRFG mtg and had a presentation/talk. He said to me the fruit is supposed to large.

If anyone else is growing it, please let me know or if you have a photo of the fruit then post it here. I did try to get more info from Joe but he is busy and couldn't reply yet.

Seedling is growing fast, it was maybe 12" tall when I got it, now it is over 2 ft tall in 2-3 months.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mamey Seedlings - Anyone Grow Pace?
« on: August 06, 2024, 04:24:25 PM »
I bought many Pace mamey fruits this year from Lara Farms.

Decided to grow out the seeds, they sure do grow fast. Has anyone else tried to grow these seeds?

Here's one seed I planted on 6/30/24. It grew rather quickly and now is about 11" tall.
I also bought the Magana and Florida Key variety so I will grow those seeds as well. The largest fruits were the Magana, smallest fruits were Florida, but I liked the taste of Pace best.
