No hand pollination. Fruit sets on its own.

Seems like these are flowering in the middle of winter for me in San Diego area, fruit isn't setting. Has anyone fruited these in S. CA.?
I have some fruits on my graft at the moment.

Seng, your probably right about roots not getting enough air. The soil is very mucky. I should clear the mulch out to let it dry out more.

Mines look terrible.  Not sure if it's the cold, Californica rootstock, or too much water.

Hey Max, is your tree in the ground or in a pot? Besides the yellowing, I also see some burnt leaf tips towards the back of your picture. Did your trees have any close contact with the trees imported from China? I’ve noticed that the trees that were imported from China and had root knot nematodes tended to have yellow leaves like yours. I wonder if any cross contamination may have occurred with RKN infested trees?

Simon
Hi Simon, the trees are planted in the ground. It’s all grafted on Californica rootstock. The Scions are from China trees.  I’m positively  sure there’s no cross contamination with the RKN infested trees. Hopefully the trees will be better when Spring comes around. As for the burnt leaf tips, I think I threw down too much fertilizer pellets.

A lot of the fruit have that flat lopsided spot on bottom as well.  And the thin skin, light flesh with the few fiber spots on the top.  And the little funny thing that sticks out of the bottom of the seed.  And the distinct seed shape.

If i had one to taste I could easily tell for sure.  They have an off aftertaste that only bacon has.

Kaz, for sure leave fruit on all those trees until april or May or whenever and then check if the bottoms are cracking.  I think the derek, nancy and hamanda are all bacons.

The last fruit I ate had quite a few fiber spot. Not very pleasant.

Any idea why my mauritius lychee flushing are not looking good?

My smaller younger tree looks the same way. Probably cold nights condition. Older trees are flushing out nicely though

I had 2 wampee grafted onto citrus tree in February 2022. One died on its own and the other one broke off after I removed the electrical tape. Luckily I was able to take budwood from it and graft it onto a seedling.

I have another graft maybe about 4 years old that's grafted  onto citrus. I've fruited from that graft once. The union does not look healthy.  I'm currently airlayering it because I have a feeling it might die. I'll post a picture of it later.  Just like lychee on longan, it's only temporary.

Just sharing an updated on my grafted Chicken heart wampee tree. I added the Seedless variety onto it on Feb 7, 2023. The Scion took forever to push. It has about 6 inches of growth so far. Really looking forward to try the seedless.

Red longan always bloom at the wrong time of the year for me.  The fruits develop over winter which always leads to cracking. Fruits end up all cracked with large seed and very little flesh. Taste is not that great. But, can't really judge yet until i get a fully developed fruit at the right time of year. I'm still hoping to get it to bloom with the regular longans cycle. For now,  it's like an ornamental.

How's it compared in flavor of Sakip?
Ikeda has strong aroma flavors just like Sakip and just as sweet too. Both varieties flavor hold up well under the cold nights condition. No weird(refrigeration aftertaste) compared to regular longans. If you can remember, the last sampled you tried was an Ikeda.
What time of year do you usually graft your longans?
Starting late April through out the growing season. For me, the hotter the better
