Another example of the topsy-turvy mango season I had:

Aug 8th. Just found a ripe Glenn.

That’s super late for the early season Glenn.

That is a great looking Glenn you have there. Mine were gone a month ago and man they were fantastic. Enjoy!

Are there really “two types” of Maha or is it just a rumor? Some I had beginning of the year were amazing and quickly became one of my top fav mangoes but others later in the season weren’t all that great. I get the flavor can vary due to many reasons but I just want to make sure if I plan a tree I don’t need to find the “right one”.

Just a guess, but earlier in the year Tampa was quite dry. if the flavor changed after the rains began in June that may be the cause.

Maha was so good.  1st yr fruiting.  Are they always this good?

I think the flavor could be affected by the amount of rainfall and maybe temperatures. Last year was the first fruiting season for my Maha and the flavor was superb and fruit were very large. This season, with the lack of rain, all of the fruit in the upper portion of the tree dropped early. Even so, I still am getting almost 100 fruits and they are as good tasting as 2024, but they are sa little smaller. Possibly due to lack of ample rain. I hand-watered as best I could but the soil was very very dry.

As another form of social media, it comes with the territory, I guess.

I know what you mean there, John. That is part of the reason this forum is the only social media I use. Even then, I was hesitant because I know that at times I have been part of the problem. So, when I signed up I picked an Avatar that reminds me of how to be part of the solution.

Nary a bird, squirrel or rat has touched my mangoes this year, and my Glenns and Mahas are once again making me happy I chose to plant them in my back yard. In fact my Glenns are giving the Maha a run for the money as far as taste goes. YUM!

I have several Mahas hanging on the tree. Can you tell me exactly what you did in terms of picking them and letting them ripen? Did you pick them while still firm and greenish? Did you let them ripen for a long time indoors? "Tropical fruit punch flavors," as you describe it, is what I'm looking for. I hear they can be very delicious, but I always seem to get Mahas when they're just average.

Here are a couple of my Mahas. The one on the right can be picked now and finished ripening on the counter for a couple more days. I cut them when I can feel them give slightly when I gently squeeze them, and they don't feel as hard as before. The flavor is superb.

These are ready to eat now:

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mango Mania at Xain's June 21

What a great time. Xain's dad made barbecue sandwiches, yucca, rice, beans and mango salsa. They served drinks and tons of mango samples with a nice variety. 0-15, Super Julie and Ice Cream were standouts for me. Xain brought out a Cempedak fruit for sampling but I couldn't hear exactly what it was.

I met all kinds of cool people and it wasn't very crowded at all. They even gave out free mangoes near the end, everybody got at least one.

Sounds like it was a really nice event. 👍

Citrus General Discussion / Re: What's Blooming?

So, here we are 3 months after the big Tango bloom in March (above), and I have some almost golf ball size tangos.
And the tree is in full bloom again. So now if it sets fruit again they'll be ripe in February/March 2026 - when the Spring bloom will occur. Crazy blooming schedule for this variety. Anyone else seeing this with their Tango?

Pim Seng Mun (nubbins) and Florigon are my favorite so far this season.

Florigon is an awesome mango. If I had room for one more mango it would be a Florigon.

That's the problem with naming mangoes like that.

It creates an expectation that might not hit the mark.

Personally I wish they would stick to people names or places.

I ate the first of the Glenn mangos that have changed color and smell wonderful, and the taste was good but washed out. Not robust like my Maha. Maybe I should have let it ripen longer in the brown paper bag?  This is the very first year the tree has produced fruit. With sparse rainfall I figured the fruit would be full flavor. I'll be trying a few more that fell off the tree, maybe they'll have more flavor.

Update: I ate my 2nd Glenn today and it had more flavor than the 1st one. I still have around 40 more of them hanging on the tree so maybe they'll continue to taste better as they ripen.

The Maha could have used another day, but the sweetness was there with that lemony taste. Saving the rest for tomorrow. Very good for a first ever mango from the tree

Looks familiar. YUM!! 👍

I wrap them in newspaper and place them inside a Box usually I have an Amazon Box laying around.

Good idea! Thanks I 👍
I did pick it this morning and it came off in my hand just by touching it. I have a few more that are probably ready as well.

My wife noticed this small Glenn today. Smells peachy - should I pick it and let it fully ripen on the counter top??
