I bought a jabo with some bark damage at the trunk. Is there something I should do to prevent it from rotting in the future? Or is it fine to leave it like this? It has been growing nicely otherwise.
Maybe clear away the dirt around the wound. How deep is the cut?
I read Whitman's 4" rule and I followed it. I used 4" diameter pots for seedlings. I realized that it made no sense to have 2" for side root growth when it should have been 4".
Now I use 8" diameter pots to start seedlings. I'm raising air-pot bottom disk up to 6" from top so I'll get 4" of soil and 2" for solid pot to hold water.
If I buy more pots for seedlings I would choose 10" diameter.
I pruned that small tree in Feb so I can prune again in late June or early July. That was 7 weeks ago.
On another small tree I pruned mid June last year. New shoots were 3' long by December. I liked the the length and thickness of those shoots.
I would prune late April if I aim for good fruit growth. The flowers need over night temperature of 17C or 63F to get good fruit growth. Fruits from early flowers from trees I pruned April 1st last year looked ugly. The late fruits looked pretty.
Those mulch look like trash. I used to mulch my banana plants in the side yard. I got tired of the trashy look from walking on the sidewalk so I removed it.
In my dry yard, dirt from my yard works fine. Citrus suck up so much water every day that potting media is not critical. At the end of the day there is not enough water left that can cause issue.
