This is a reliable seller from Guadeloupe, so from the carrabean. Seeds were harvested this month 11/2015. Not shure whether he ships to you or not.
I bought seeds of couroupita guianensis as well. The look fantastic, and I can soon tell you if they germinated or not, but as good as every seed I buy from him does so. Here's the ebay link:

Elephant apples and cannonball trees are in yards and gardens around here and these 2 species seem to be large trees that look kinda ok but the are not too many other redeem ing qualities.

Cannonball trees are spectacular when in bloom and also when fruiting. But when dropping fruits they will stink up your yard and take lots of space. Not for small yards. Fruits not edible, by my definition of edible.
Elephant apple is edilbe but needs some preparation. They are used in curries in India. But i've never tried cooking them. These trees can also get quite large, but not as specacular looking as cannonball.
If looking for edible fruit much better off going with quaribeas (aka matisia).

Might be difficult for you to obtain plants of these species. Might be a lot easier to get seeds and start your own plants.

I've heard they are used in the Philippines to make a tea. There is a video somewhere on YouTube, the man says the flesh is sweet but poisonous to an extent when fresh so must be prepared.

Yes, how to know when the fruit is ripe?  There is a tree here in the museum which is fruiting.  I would like to pluck a few (with permission of course).  Or does it have to fall from the tree first?  Thank you.

The fruiting tree:

You will find the ripe fruits in the soil only. The ripe fruits fall from the trees!

If anyone is still looking for these seeds, I can get as may as you want for trade or sale

Cheers

Q. funebris had been offered here before, I believe from one of our Florida members.  You should be able to find it with a search -- send him a note to see if he can still supply.
