Are these Sumo tangerines
« on: December 07, 2021, 09:51:10 PM »
We went to a resort in Indio, Ca, last weekend.  They grow lots of citrus varieties there and all full of fruits.   All trees are very big and I would say are all 10+ years old.  Medium thick skin, easy peel, with almost seedless.

It looks like sumo to me. How was the taste, was it sweet with some acid/tartness so maybe a 7/10 in sweetness?

Kiyomi doesn't usually have the large bump/neck, and has pebbly outer skin.

These can be underripe/off season tangelo as the peel looks thin. My tangelo harvested in August looks similar (the one on the right in the picture). The green one is a Dekopon, which usually have thicker and rougher skin than tangelo.

Yeah sweetness could be rated around 7/10 with a few seeds.  I think I picked them early since the fruits are not completely turn full orange color.
I picked them while staying at a resort in Indio, closes to UC Riverside.  All citrus trees were huge, must be 10+ years old.
