Birula is supposed to be a seedling of Lisa.

There is also the Yellow Birula, has neat looking, yellow-colored fruits (outside color). I noticed this variety is a vigorous grower.

To Kaz’s point, there is also a yellow Lisa! I don’t know what happened to the mother tree but I was able to salvage a scion.

Ryan, Wow !
Is that your tree with the fruit?

I thought the original bud mutation was from JF (Frank) tree, but I got my scions from Gozp.

If i recall correctly, birula is a seedling of lisa where JF obtained from exotica nursery. I got to confirm with him.

Birula aka super lisa is more prolific than lisa.

Yellow birula which JF claimed was a budsport of birula. I am currently growing it & approx 50 fruits on it.

Have you seen the yellow fruits on your tree ?

I do have a Lisa tree and it grows slow, not as vigorous as the Birula grafted trees.

I ate a "Birula" from shot's tree today (thanks!!)

Big fruit, very sweet, nice flavor and not many seeds. Took a photo before devouring it.

Yellow birula. Once they start to ripen the color changes to yellow.

I know i uploaded yellow birula somewhere in TFF.

Thanks Kaz! This is not my tree but I did get scions from it and I grafted it. It’s doing well. The tree was growing at a friend’s place in north county I think near Rainbow or Fallbrook area.  I need to follow up and ask how his tree is doing.

Do you really think yellow Lisa is different or just a influence nitrogen level or photo induced color response?I have Lisa and Birula with that color phase i always chalk it up to lower nutrient levels induced sometimes by different rootstocks and vigor influence of said rootstocks.

Shot, yes, I think it is a different fruit. Frank showed a photo of his yellow birula mutated branch with the yellow fruit. It is not what you mention, it looks very yellow to me. Here's the previous post from 2019, and the photo he posted.

Gozp has many fruits on his tree so we should know very soon what color the yellow birula fruit will be on the outside of the fruits.

Yellow birula is a budsport of birula. It was accidentally pruned by his gardener. I was lucky to obtained a tree from him.

Here is a photo of yellow birula 3 or 4 yrs ago from a very small graft.

Now is matured enough..i should be able to get bigger fruits.

I didn't know about his tree getting cut off by the gardener. That was very good that you had one of his grafted trees. I remember when he mentioned he had the budsport on his tree. I have not seen the fruit in person, but it sure looks nice. Really appreciate you sharing the budwood this year. I hope my grafts have fruit in a few years. At least it has been saved by you and others who grafted your budwood.

Yes. Its a budsport of birula. He showed me the scion of the budsport. Unfortunately, his gardener did a shitty job.

Once ripe. I'll share u some yellow birula.
