Shade tolerance, anyone? I have limited growing space and every square inch counts. I hope to plant a fruit tree at a spot shaded partly by a nearby large tree. Between fig, wax jambu, guava, or pomegranate, which one do you think has the largest likelihood of fruiting in part sun / part shade, zone 10a? Many thanks!!
By the way I'm impressed how my mulberry is able to pull off fruiting in even more shaded spot of my yard, where a persimmon tree was barely hanging on previously. My loquat tree seems to be relatively OK with shade too, but they are not yet at fruiting age.

My parents' fig and guava fruits okay with only morning sun. I would think wax jambu would do okay as well with those broad leaves. Not sure about pomegranate with those small leaves. The pomegranate one row away from the fig is fruiting fine as well. It gets sun until maybe 2pm.

i know currants and gooseberries do, but my understanding is most will not grow in the South.
i just bought one, (waiting on shipping), supposedly its a zone 9-10 plant.
(its called Elk River Currant)

Monstera deliciosa
Miracle fruit
Salak ?
Acmena smithii (lilly Pilli)
some blackberries.
strawberry guava
Fiejoa
alpine strawberries
ive heard of lemons (mainly Myers) being grown in shade, or, inside.
(not fruit per-se)
gingers (some have tasty edible flower, and even fruits)
some bamboo's
i am looking for the same thing.

Guava do well in part shade. Raspberries also. Pomegranite will need decent sun. Even bananas can take some shade.

Thank you all! I decided I never have enough figs and fig tree it is.
I will basically grow my trees even closer to each other, and hopefully keeping them under 8 feet tall (except what is already out of control, cough cough avocado). This means first guava and wax jambu get full sun spots, second guava gets OK sun spot, wampee and second fig get part shade spots. Pomegranate supposedly manages OK as a container tree so it will a get full sun pot ;D

Fig is a good pic. I have a White Genoa fig in on the north side of my garage and it only gets a couple hours of direct sun but ripens tasty fruit.

A friend in Fania Beach has a large unnamed loquat in front of his house and it's in total shade from several very old oak trees and it fruits like mad. Mine is also in shade from the fall on and it fruits well and it's only ~5' tall.

A friend in Fania Beach has a large unnamed loquat in front of his house and it's in total shade from several very old oak trees and it fruits like mad. Mine is also in shade from the fall on and it fruits well and it's only ~5' tall.
I was told loquat / citrus do fruit but without sufficient sunlight the fruit quality may suffer a lot, does anyone know?

Carambola does really well in the shade for me.
