By the way, I am just giving honest opinions.  No hard feeling, take it for what its worth which is not much!, I am wrong about many things in life, your mileage may vary etc etc etc,   

You are in the very dry, great wide open there. Where you live. I must think that in more densely settled locations (Los Angeles etc) , the avocado and mango trees get more protected from "the dry" via buildings and trees close to them. Shading them. Less moisture gets lost.

So their avo and mango results (yields) will be different.

249 views  May 17, 2022  One guy came with the truck and the mulching machine so I thought it was a great opportunity to get some needed full body intense exercise by helping the guy out. It was so great! I’m 73 and I hope that this kind of activity will help get me to 115. Normally I fill my 7 green garbage cans twice a week with cuttings but now I’m in the middle of bringing all my trees to only 3-4 feet from sometimes 30 feet so there are a huge amounts of cuttings to be disposed.

*** I was wondering how you got rid of yr mango trimmings. The ultimate is to separate all the leaves and thin branches. Then mulch them into my lawn with my lawnmower. Half the time I do this. Other half I chuck them out for the trash man.

****In Broward county all trash goes to the incinerator in Pompano. So my mango debris help fuel the fire. I dump my old motor oil in too. Matter of fact, I got a mailing from the local trash haulers aka Waste Management. In so many words they said, "don't bother putting any recyclables in your recyclable bin/trash can" They all get sorted into the incinerator trash to be burned.

****All except aluminum cans. As far as iron and steel? I think that after burning everything, these are pulled out with a crane and a electromagnet. At least I like to think so.

Last year was very good. This year is below normal. Last year my Pickering, Carrie and Sweet Tart (#1!) trees were heavy producers. My Carrie always comes through, so even this year it is OK, but half of last year.

I have used soluble kelp powder(ascophyllum nodosum) as a general tonic for plants that fail to thrive for over 20 years. It is great for treating trace element deficiencies which may be one factor, but it also contains natural substances that make plants thrive. I have been told it increases grafting success if applied to scion and stock but have not tested it. It does seem to help with rooting cuttings. I first noticed it to increase bloom on citrus,but it seems to work on everything. 5 pounds in a single application rejuvenated 10 acres of pasture so quickly and of such high quality to the point that neighbors asked what I sprayed it with.

Let this ferment for 15-30 days. Run through a fine mesh strainer. Take the kelp dregs and run through a strong blender. Use as a foliar or a drench.

Mangos are the most popular fruit. If not #1 then in the top five. The internet also says that bananas are #1.
So mangoes are not overrated.
Mangoes and bananas are often grown in the same tropical and semi-tropical climates. Mangoes taste better any day of the week.

You have planted 1000 mango trees? You gotta mow your grass during the wet season to keep track of the fruit trees you have planted. Even if you do this only 2-3 times per year. Then you will have a better mind's eye image of your progress. Buy a used riding mower?

When your trees grow large, then mow once a year.

VP is called upright grower and vigorous. It makes very nice looking elongated fruits that customers will buy. Plant it where you can let it grow as much as you like and into a shade tree.
Cac is not like this. It is moderate with a bushy enough tendency.

There is a VP a mile from me. It sure looks like VP, but the owner could not verify, since the tree came with the property when he bought it. For all I know, maybe it was planted from seed, a VP seed perhaps? I was amazed how good looking the fruits were. He gave me a few, so thanks to him! This would be a very good tree to get scion wood from.  (zzlogic___at____gmail) The fruit skin was so shiny and colorful, that I rate it 50/50 that this tree is not a VP clone such as Zill will graft.

Great idea Brian! I have had limited sooty mold from time to time. I cut off these branches. I never had to cut off anything larger diameter than one inch. They all grew back with no mold.

How about that bacterial spotting that makes leaves die? On mango trees? This is my larger problem. One mango tree shed lots of leaves last month due to this. They all grew back green, the tree now looks nice and green. But having to grow back these leaves takes energy which is better spent making fruits next year.

My neighbor in the same suburban development --  I never asked him where he got this idea about getting a Dwarf Hawaiian mango tree. But last March he asked me where he could buy Dwarf Hawaiian. By some cosmic synchronicity he was talking to someone who knew. I sent him to Chris at Truly Tropical where he got his Hawaiian and a Carrie too. So now he has these two plus a much older tree that seems like Keitt. It is late season for sure.

The green was a template and it is not compatible with the current version but we are looking into other compatible template options.

I preferred the green as well.

Your deadline is next SE Florida mango season. The day that Alex-Squam has his first ripe mangoes for the hordes.

That steam is good. It shows that things are cooking and breaking down into eventually humus and compost.
Do not breath in that steam! It can be full of mold as in toxic mold.

This tree is very well branched out. The only problem for us mango cognoscenti is that all the fruits will be up on high. So wait for them to fall or find a way to pick them. In contrast, all my trees are kept low for easy fruit picking. My goal is to never have to use a ladder (dangerous) to trim/prune the tree. I am sure many/most here do the same.

For picking fruit from this tree I would take a simple extension ladder and rope it in very very securely to the trunk. I did this rope-a-dope once to trim a Kent mango tree. Then using a mango picking pole I would pick the mangos. Get out an old foam mattress and drop your picked mangos onto it. Or haul an old sofa outside and drop the mangoes onto it. (joke) Hmmmm.. I would never get up on a folding ladder to pick mangoes.

If the lawn is very lushly grassy and well kept the mangoes that fall off naturally will not get that bruised. Mangoes that fall can be firm and suffer minimally. Not all mango drops are soft by any means.

Got two Rocky raccoons that did not walk it around. Heavy construction. Only problem was the trap was set on top of lawn grass, which Rockys tore up to a fare thee well as they tried to dig downward to escape. So putting some plywood underneath next year.
No wasp spray? Douse/Squirt Rocky's face, nose, eyes with some hot pepper/Cayenne simmered in water. And of course be sure to give him a good boot in the ass on the way out..

I trimmed my LZ today. It has been overcast today plus I have a tarp over them. Lots of cuttings that I can send out tomorrow. I should have enough to fill two of these boxes. Email me directly at zzendo7 ... AT .....gmail DOT com

I know they will not be prepped. I charge $20 to fill a priority mail box with the scions that I put in a plastic bag with some wetted newspaper. You pay for the medium sized priority mail box which is about $17. You do the math. I think the US Post Office is now back to normal for priority mail, going by other stuff I have recently sent. Florida probably late for grafting but California, Arizona is not. So I think.

I also have an Orange Sherbet tree that I have not tip pruned all season. I can take scions off it tomorrow to send you a box that is half OS and half LZ.

For the real fanaticos that want to convert a tree to Keitt... This tree was trimmed today. The cuttings are on the ground and can be sent out tomorrow. Same price as up above.

My vote goes to black mission fig. I ate a lot of them in Oroville, where the tree was located, a few years ago, there was a tree on the property. The tree was very productive.
