I am looking for seeds of Averrhoa carambola and Vasconcellea species. Does anyone have any available and are willing to ship abroad?

Also looking for spiny longan (dimocarpus longan subsp malesianus var echinatus) or similar longan subspecies.

Will you have any other Vasconcellea species in the future?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / In need of guava advice
« on: October 08, 2020, 10:29:14 PM »
Hi to all,

My young guava tree has been fully defoliated for about a month now, and is experiencing die-back from the top down. Interestingly, there is new growth appearing from the bottom and middle sections of the trunk. I would like some advice as to how I can stop it from continuing to die-back. The days have averaged approximately 16 - 17 C for the past month and has been watered only when the top soil has been dry.

PS. Moisture is 5.5 and pH about 6.8 according to the pictures.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Brown at the base of carambola seedling

Hi all,

Is the brown colouration at the base of this starfruit seedling normal or should I be concerned? The soil has only recently been watered - it was dry before.

Do you sell seeds?

Hi all,

I am looking to buy starfruit seeds, particularly those from named varieties (I am aware that they don't usually grow true to type).

Thanks all :)

I have v. Monoica x pubescens hybrid for trade. Tastes better and hardier then just monoica

Hi Brian, do you have seeds? Are they for sale or trade only? Cheers.

Do you have seeds available of other Vasconcellea species?

What variety is the starfruit tree you have?

I am looking to source seeds from different starfruit varieties, particularly those of Giant Siam, Kari and Fwang Tung. I am aware that the seeds probably won't grow entirely true to type.

Thanks all.

I will be re-potting my starfruit plant into a large container. What potting medium is best for starfruit?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Starfruit issue

Hello all,

These white specks have begun to appear on the leaves of my young starfruit plant. This started approximately 1 week ago and it doesn't appear problematic for the plant, yet. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Thanks. Off-topic, but do you grow the starfruit outside in Zone 8?

Very difficult :/

Hi, do you have any seeds that have not germinated yet (my country will not allow pre-germinated seeds)?

Hi, I am looking to buy some seeds of Vasconcellea monoica, parviflora and or stipulata.

What kind of fertilizer and hiw much are you adding? It could be excess of nitrogen too.

An organic seaweed plant tonic, which has been rarely applied. Thanks.

Hello, everyone,

My Longan here isn't looking so great. I am from Auckland, New Zealand, which is approximately USDA zone 9b. We entered spring in September. During the winter from June - August, the plant was subjected to average lows of 11C, with extreme lows at around 4C. It has been protected under the eaves of the house since May, and during winter it received approximately 3-4 hours of direct sunlight. I watered it very infrequently during the winter (deep water once every 2-3 weeks) months. However, since late August it began showing signs of brown-tipping on the leaves. I am wondering, what issue might be causing this? I haven't fertilized at all, and I have watered it with rainwater with a few waterings of a natural seaweed mixture added in. Its watering has been controlled, with no natural precipitation affecting the plant. Cheers

Will it also do okay in subtropical climates?
