from sacredsucculents.com

Eugenia myrcianthes “Ubajai”

Myrtaceae. Small willow-like tree to 15-25′. Pendulous branches, simple glossy leaves, pubescent when young. White flowers and apricot size edible fruit. The flavor of the fruit is excellent when still pale yellow but becomes insipid upon turning a dark yellow/orange. Native to the Rio Plata region, Brazil. Easy to grow ornamental/edible, mature trees tolerant of mild frost. Z9b

Apparently picking the fruit at the right time is the key- insipid fruit is not likely to entertain anyones palette

Gorgeous looking haul-

From my previous post on dealing with this clown-

as one of the people whose orders was messed with and had to dispute the charge on paypal after the seller demanded a re-shipping fee, I wouldn't be so sure that you re the reason things went poorly.

I made a huge effort to meet halfway with this guy and he is one of two bad vendors I have experienced on this site. International shipping of seeds has risks and sellers on here such as jibril, maryoto, marcos, and on and on and on are able to at least communicate the risks associated with shipping out of their country and re-ship seeds if something gets grabbed.

This is not the case with Andres. Poor communication, rude, and if I hadn't gotten a full refund I would have already written a poor review for this seller and recommend others not deal with him. Unless you want to be told your $150 seed order was too small to warrant re-shipping or that he has a safe way to ship the second time after your package gets seized(conveniently never mentioned before, and twice the cost) stay away.

11
I thought all the exports out of the country for seeds is not allowed.  How are you bypsssing the customs?  If the seeds get confiscated do you have a refund or replacement policy?

In my experience, he is not bypassing customs and expects you to pay more for a second round of shipping without providing any information about why the first one was seized

Be careful out there

I tried to warn people about this guys horrible service and failure to deliver things in a prompt or professional manner, I hope you used buyer protection

Got hit with a couple hours frost

Thanks Nullzero!

Call me a sadist- but these were all extra plants that I have laying around that I was doing experiments with

Nothing looks completely dead to me but time will tell and winter is not over

hopefully this will encourage more people to try to zone push- young Garcinia surviving a frost is hopeful for me

Hey All-

So I mentioned I would do a cold tolerance listing of a lot of species but ended up deciding that a picture is worth a thousand words so just snapped some of all the species we left outside in pots or in the ground.

First the weather it endured-

I think most people will know that a single temperature that a species can survive is a bit of a myth- good examples in here are the Dovyalis hebecarpa and Garcinia brasiliensis

Another point worth noting is that by building a basically cube of wind blocks, with the tallest trees on the north side I was able to build an area of the back yard that did not experience any frost- these are the "protected" pictures below

Agaptes serpens-

Annona montana-

Annona muricata-

dead bud

new bud

Artocarpus heterophyllus-

protected:

Azadirachta indica-

Brugmansia spp.-

new growth

Casimiroa edulis-

Dovyalis caffra-

Dovyalis hebecarpa-

the only plant of ~5 that was affected

Euterpe oleracea-

Garcinia brasiliensis-

protected:

Garcinia humilis-

Inga spp. -

unprotected:

protected:

Magnifera spp. -

Manilkara zapota-

Mimusops zeyheri-

Musa spp. "Java Ice Cream" -

Plinia spp. "Red" -

Pouteria caimito-

Syzygium malaccense-

Syzygium oleosum-

Ugni molinae-

cheers,

Just did a cold tolerance test with one of these plants last night-

It is in the ground and mulched but we had frost and I will report back on whether or not the plant survives

Here are the goods!
