Canna edulis stalk color
« on: October 29, 2022, 07:56:19 AM »
I have been growing these for a few years. I also have ornamental cannas in the yard. The original edulis have red stalks. I've collected their seed and propagated them. I now have cannas that have green stalks like the ornamental ones growing in some of the pots. Could these be edulis, just with green stalks or maybe a hybrid? Should they still be edible? Thanks! D

Green stalk canna edulis is fairly common

They're usually propagated vegetatively

Thank for the input. The ornamental ones that are naturalized in the yard have yellow flowers and the edulis have smaller red flowers. Should I assume any with yellow flowers are inedible? D

As far as I know, they should still be edible regardless. It isn't like cassava where the new seedlings can be much more toxic.
