Pearl Guava/Florida Pink - on sale on Weee
« on: February 21, 2024, 11:21:28 PM »
If anyone is interested in tasting the Pearl guava, I bought some from Weee and it was not bad. I also had the Crystal seedless fruit last year and they are about the same as far as flavor and taste that I can detect. Fruits are large, but the Crystal is seedless so it has that advantage. The Pearl guava is a large fruit so even if you remove the seeds (spoon out), there is a lot of flesh to eat.

I'll post some photos of it compared to a few of my other varieties I have now, the Melon guava and Tropci Pink guava fruits.

Well this is the only online fresh fruit store that has the good stuff many collectors are growing (Erdon Lee, Shine, Honey pomelo, etc).

Seems there are many guava enthusiasts trying to grow this one as well as Crystal so now is the time to buy the fruits and see if it is what you hope it would be.

I will post some photos later of this guava and a few of my seedling types or mislabeled types that had fruits this week.

Looks like they're out of the pearl guava. The shine grape was good, but only on the first day. The rest that I'd saved became bland and lost its fragrance the next day. It was worth the try however.

Here's my quick taste test I did yesterday. I did get fresh Crystal fruits from Max and I think it tasted better than the Pearl guava.

Here's another neat guava on sale. This one is called Florida Pink guava.

It sounds more like the Crunchy Pink guava that the guy from Florida sells on ebay.

It is much more $$ than the Pearl guava but it is nice and crunchy, has about the same or less  amount of seeds. The taste is very similar to Pearl and Crystal seedless guava.. So if you haven't tasted the pink crunchy guava here's your chance to do so. I think for the $39 I got 4 Florida Pink guavas. I plan to germinate the seeds from both of these guava types.

I'll post some photos later, maybe if I can squeeze out any juice from it, I will take a brix reading.
