I waited as long as I could for the 'school bus orange' color

but I finally had a chance to taste cv. "Tori" (a selected seedling from My Kids Nursery in Central FL) this morning. Fruits seems to get big and round (consistent with other fruit on the tree) with white flesh. On first bite, very juicy and sweet with a nice mild hint of citrus. "Refined" is what came to mind. The skin was thin and had 2 seeds in it. I've been using organza bags (4"x4" walmart) to protect the fruits from birds and it working so far. Tree was obtained from GreenDreams nursery. This May would be 2 years in ground and barely 3ft tall. More loquats fruits from this and other cvs to come (Oliver, Yehuda, Zesty, SES#2 etc). Please share your loquat impressions for this season was well.

Lots of varieties ripening up to do a comparison.

'Strawberry'
Small fruit. Juicy. Not as sweet. Mild citrus notes. Very clean looking fruit.

'Oliver'
Small size. Juicy. Clementine flavor.

'Sherry Woods'
White fleshed. Really good. Nice sweet tart component and juicy! Brix was 11.

seedling of 'Turkey'
Long fruit. Sweet. Juicy. Flesh easily separated from the skin while consuming. Clementine flavor. Brix was 11.

'SES #2'
Juicy and sweet. Soft orange flesh. Brix of 12. Reminiscent of eating a mandarin.

'Tori'
White fleshed. Round fruit. Sweet and juicy. Very productive for age and size of tree. Brix 11.

'Angelino'
Orange flesh. Juicy. Not very sweet but tart. First time producing for a young tree. Looked for the best to include in this comparison. More to come.

'Pupello'
Tart. Tasted like it needed more ripening. Lots of seeds- 5 per fruit. First time producing for a young tree. Looked for the best to include in this comparison. More to come.

Angelino and Italy (seedling)

'Angelino'
My cell can't capture the 'orangeness' of the color of these fruit. But it dosen't matter cause the fruit were juicy but sour lol. The tree is just too young.
Out of all my in ground loquat tree varieties, 'Angelino' and 'Pupello' have been prone to fruit splitting.

'Italy'
Orange fresh. Had a nice apricot flavor that was quite enjoyable. It did not taste as sweet as it's brix reading...18 :O. 2 yrs in ground.

If you can continue to post the brix readings on the fruits you pick that would be good.
Since you're in Florida, I can take brix readings of my loquat fruits in a few months so we can see how much difference there is for the same varieties.

Absolutely. I love geeking out on brix readings. Still have lots of 'Angelino' and 'Pupello' fruit left as well as 'Cori', 'Ellen Marker', 'Oliver', 'Sherry Woods', 'Yehuda' etc.

'Coy'
Very enjoyable to eat. The Taste reminded me of eating a very ripe star fruit. Brix was 13.
Had another 'Coy' fruit that was sweet and juicy with very little if any, tart. Brix was 12.5.

'Tori'
Nice sweet and acid balance. Brix was 12.

seedling of 'Turkey'
Sweet and juicy with the nice sharp tartness to it. Brix for different fruits: 11, 13, 15, 18.
The 18 brix fruit sampled made me think to my self I might as well be eating a sweet clementine. Delicious! Pop em in the mouth with no peeling.

'Sherry Woods'
Sweet with a nice tart component. Best tasting fruit had a brix of 13 and 14.

'Angelino' and 'Pupello'.
Both were disappointing. Pupello would never ripen properly and split on the tree.
Angelino would look perfect and clean. Soft flesh, juicy, but taste lack luster. Brix ave. ~ 10.

Loquat season in winding down in my yard. 'Ellen Marker', 'Yehuda' and 'Sherry Woods' still left.

This marks the end of loquat season in my yard. Lost a bunch of fruit to squirrels. The ones that tasted sweet to me I tested the brix.

seedling of 'Turkey'

Might as well be eating a sweet clementine. Sweet. Juciy. Citrusy. Very little if any tart component. Soft melting flesh. Pops easily in the mouth. Mean Brix of 16.8 (18,15,15, 17, 19.)

'Pupello'

Surprisingly sweet compared to early season ones. Didn't not detect much citrus tones. Flesh was chewy/ tough though. Brix 13.

'Angelino'
Sweet/ Tart flavor. Tasted sweeter than it tested. Brix of 9.

'Ellen Marker'
Very sweet yet mellow. The juice has a 'bubbly' component to it. Sort of lively/carbonated/ effervescent/ bright character. Really good flavor. Maybe lemony. Mean Brix of 14.37. (12,14,13,16,17,15,13,15.)

'Sherry Woods'
Sweet with a sharp! taste to it. Mean Brix 13.5,
(14,13,13,13,13,15,14)

Where did you find the Turkey loquat? Sounds like a winner, is it your seedling tree?

I got it from TopTropicals as 'Turkey'. Then some months later I visited them and asked why they were no longer selling those loquats (Turkey and Italy). They said that their bud wood for those trees were seedlings from those varieties (don't come true to seed), so they stopped selling them. Both of those seedlings has been delicious for me. Not to mention being in the ground longer.

Here's my first ripe loquats in SoCal:

This one branch is grafted, but lost the tag so not really sure which of my 90 varieties it is on the multi-grafted Big Jim tree. The fruits are different since it has a nice red blush on the skin as you can see. None of my other ones has this.

Just took some brix reading, pretty consistent, brix =17.
Flesh is white, tastes very good/excellent.

Wow man first time I see a redish loquat . Whatever It is seems to me that might be a cross with Eriobotrya deflexa

Not a cross that I know of. My large Big Jim tree that this branch is grafted on has 90 varieties of loquats only and none of the other fruits has this much red blush, maybe a few dots once in a while but nothing like this branch of fruits.

Fruits from my 'Oliver' and some 'Sherry Woods' fruit got those red streaks/ blush to it this season.
