Lots of sellers on Esty. I just picked up some seeds, starting them in the next two weeks (first attempt with these)

I got Urizun winged bean from Baker Creek several years ago. The first time time around I planted at the same season as my pole beans (February). Its warm and dry here at that time (which is great for pole beans) but the winged beans did not grow very well until we started getting regular summer rains. Even though they have more resistance to leaf diseases than the pole beans, I think they are susceptible to red spidermites (particularly when there are no rains to wash them off). Late spring/early summer seems to be a better time to plant here in central Florida.

I ordered from bakers and amazon. Will probably get more from bakers if no one has fresh ones harvested from last year.

For those of you with success in growing wing bean

What are your germination methods?

Is your wing bean perrenial or annual?

Does your wing bean have a tuber, if so, does it grow new plants?

I've heard say neutral is the way to go

I was thinking about planting this too. Looks like it would make a great stir fry with some sliced pork and oyster sauce.

Is the crop pretty much an all at once type deal? Or is the harvest spread out over a few months?

I planted in fertilized garden soil when day time temps were in the 80s. The plants did produce a tuber, but I pulled most of them when they died back. I did not pull them this time around. We'll see if they come back.

The day neutral kind I planted had a couple month harvest window. I think the other types are more concentrated.

50 seeds for $6 is a great deal. I will try baker creek and that day neutral and see how it goes.

Had this bean when i was a kid, so chasing memories here.

Yes, see if the tuber regrows, that will be game changer (if i ever get to that level of success).

I haven't dug down, but this vine had seemingly died and dried up. And then it started pumping new growth again.

I have seeds for sale. They are better scarified and soaked...
I would like to be the Eugenia King of New Orleans and spread tropical fruit throughout the city starting in the 9th Ward. I'm especially interested in guava and eugenia from around the world and in breeding new varieties by chance, coincidence, and accident.

Thanks Crisp for the offer. I've bought a bunch. Both day neutral and short variety. Also got red variety.

How do they grow'? I want to buy some seeds, but always had bad luck with seeds.

The seeds grew, but didnt do well after i transplanted it. 1-2 is still alive, but we are no longer in summer so i assume it will not do well. I wont be able to determine which variety does well since i do not think it will get to the fruiting stage.

I will try again next year with direct sowing...my 5th year.

Tried it for the first time this year.  Seeds from Baker.  The direct sow in ground worked best.  They start really slow, so I put a 2-liter on them to keep pests off.  They eventually take off.  At that time, when I tried to transplant the pot starts, they ended up sulking again and then they're just so far behind.  I didn't keep any of the pot starts, so I don't know if they would have recovered.  As long as you keep picking the beans, it seems to keep flowering, so I ended up only keeping 1 vine for our modest needs.

So you successfully grew wing beans?! I still have 1 vine that is growing, im hoping its roots live and become a tuber.

This is what the neglected vine looks like now

Normally, it does look very pretty with the flowers.

I should look up more recipes to use it with, since it's pretty productive, and so far no critters have gone after it.  We only stir fry the young pods, <6". Too tough after that. It wants to grow much taller/longer, but I kept it cut back to 6' since that was enough beans.
