Sugarcane ID and recommendations to grow it

Hi I stumbled on a Chinese market in Sacramento today and they were selling these large 5-6 foot long canes for cheap. Figure why not give it a try.

Does anyone know what it could be called?

Also any advice for getting started or a dummy guide for a beginner at propagating canes? Thanks

I am literally surrounded by hundreds of acres of sugar cane. There are two easy things to grow in this world, sugar cane, and cassava. If you toss them on to bare ground and water both of them will root and send up shoots! It really is that easy. However, I always bury the cuttings horizontally about a half-inch deep.

It is very difficult to ID sugarcane from the cane only. There are a few varieties that can be picked out, but your can does not show the things I usually look at. You can learn more as it grows by looking at the leaf stalk, bud eye, bud groove, etc.
