Minneloa Tangelo suitable pollinator.. oroblanco?
« on: March 10, 2025, 11:31:12 AM »
Hi all,

I’ve seen variations of this q asked but not this specifically. I’m new to citrus/temperate climate growing. I’d like to grow a Minneloa tangelo. So far I’m only seeing suitable pollinators as some seeded mandarin varieties. I have an oroblanco grapefruit already. Would this be a suitable pollinator as they both have pomelo origin? Or is oroblanco just not a good pollinator in general. I don’t really want to have a dancy, etc. mandarin as I already have seedless varieties: satsuma, tango, Yosemite. Thank you!

The Minneola I grew to full maturity 35 years ago was accompanied by a Navel, Ruby Red, Valencia and Temple. Whichever contributed as a pollenator did a hell of a good job because to this day those tangelos were the most delicious and beautiful citrus fruit I've ever had.

You're going to love that Minneola.

Minneola flowers are self incompatible, thus require pollination by another citrus variety.  Dancy, kinnow and clementine are all good pollinators.

Temple is a known pollenator for Minneola.
